Tin of prunes? Ideas please

Have been having a clear out/taking a stock check as trying to eat what's in cupboards and freezer.

Have found 2 tins of prunes in back of cupboard from a visit by elderly relative a few years ago and they were having them at breakfast.

Any fave recipes of how to use them up?

Blitzed up in a sticky toffee pudding!

I blend them then add to normal muffin mix

I had the exact same thread about a month ago! I was recommended, and ended up making chocolate brownies with prunes. They were pretty good!

Jamie’s beef tagine www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/beef-recipes/beef-tagine/

With rabbit and mustard.

Thank you - rookie error not checking for another thread @Wigeon!!! Who would have thought there were tins hiding in cupboards around the country!

Possibly thinking one of the stews - they all sound good.

Brownies etc sound good too. His not a nut fan but could leave them out I guess? Can you tell there are prunes in it?

With rabbit and mustard.

Sounds delicious- but I've never cooked rabbit.

Lovely straight from the tin with porridge or yoghurt

Sent too soon - can you buy at butchers?

There was a lovely-sounding recipe in today's Observer from Nigel Slater, for a chorizo stew with prunes and almonds:

... or, just in a bowl with warm custard on the top!

I love prunes.

Honestly, it's not hard.

The first time I did it, I followed the recipe.

As for buying at the butchers, you can at ours but we live reasonably rurally so they routinely sell game in season.

I didn’t put nuts in and it was fine. I wanted a recipe where you couldn’t really tell it was big lumps of prune and the brownies were good for that. I think I just chopped them up quite small.

I’ve also done prunes in a lamb tagine which is really good.

I’ve been using a few prunes in my Christmas baking with the dried fruit. They work well. Mine are in brandy so keep from year to year. They were a gift originally.

WeirdPookah · 24/10/2022 15:01

I let them soak with some water overnight with oats and a bit of cinnamon, cook up in the morning and they are delicious in the porridge, I usually add some almond butter on top.

AuntieMarys · 24/10/2022 15:02

I love them in porridge or rice pudding

Linnet · 24/10/2022 15:02

Growing up we always had prunes with rice pudding.

DisforDarkChocolate · 24/10/2022 15:04

I just like them with custard. A childhood favourite.

I used to make this all the time : www.open.edu/openlearn/body-mind/health/health-studies/recipe-pork-sausages-braised-red-wine.

l omitted the sultanas and it was lovely (and easy).

Otherwise flapjacks are yummy (and more interesting) with dried fruit.
