Defrosted Chicken is it safe?

About midnight last night I took a pack of chicken leg portions out of the freezer intending to put them in the fridge to defrost overnight and during the day today, to cook tonight. However, I got distracted and left them out on the worktop. I've come down this morning and they look completely defrosted so I've put them in the fridge to use tonight. Will they still be safe to use after being left out defrosting all night then spending the day in the fridge?

I would have cooked them straight away rather than putting them back in the fridge.

Yes I do this all the time.

Assuming you do not heat your house at night, they will be fine.
Just cook well, as always with chicken.

I wouldn't. I bin them. Too high a risk of salmonella poisoning.

JMHO.

100% they will be fine. I never defrost ANYTHING in the fridge at all. Everything gets left out on the counter to defrost...sometimes for the whole of the next day too and then il cook it for 5pm that evening.

AnnieHoooo · 23/10/2022 10:18

Yes, assuming your kitchen is cold. I do this.

Mumdiva99 · 23/10/2022 10:19

If there was no heat on all night it will be fine. Imho.

Changingplace · 23/10/2022 10:20

Yes this is exactly how I defrost everything, theres no heat on in my kitchen overnight they will be absolutely fine.

lentilly · 23/10/2022 10:21

How cold is your kitchen I think that's key here.

Personally I wouldn't risk it but I can't afford to get salmonella with my current health the way it is.

I think if you'd cooked it rather than put it back in the fridge it would have been safer

gogohmm · 23/10/2022 10:21

Yes, do it all the time

MariEllie · 23/10/2022 10:21

If you cook them properly they will be fine
