How many different foods does your baby like?

DD (7 months) is quite difficult to feed. SHe's been on solids for 7 weeks now, but will only eat fruit and baby rice. I have tried mixing things together, eg butternut squash with mashed banana, apple with carrot... but the minute she detects any non-fruit element, she just starts gagging and spitting it all out. it's even worse if I try to get any protein into her. I have mixed poached pureed white fish with fruit puree at a ration of 1part fish to 10 parts fruit, and she STILL wouldn't have it.

DS went through this too, but at least with him I could get more or less anything in his mouth as long as it was coated with mashed bananam and he would eat it. DD just pulls these horrible faces and spits it all out, writhes around, and cries.

She will ONLY eat apple, pear, banana, and any of these three mixed with paoched pureed dried fruit (for variety!). She only has 20oz milk per day, split between one morning feed, one bedtime, and one small mid-afternoon bottle, and her solids are always offered at least 2 hours after a milk feed, so I'm confident it's not the milk affecting her appetite. Also, she is genuinely hungry for the solids as she wolfs down whatever she can if it's fruit - she just starts crying if it's anything other than fruit.

I am worried that this limited diet is denying her essential proteins, amino acids, etc that she needs for brain/body growth. Anyone else have a baby like this?

my ds took to sweet potatoe at that age, have you tried it? though he hated it if i mixed fruit with it!it also took me ages to get him onto chicken etc at 7 months. just kept adding a bit of chicken casserole to his potatoe and veg, and eventually he ate it. annabel karmel book has recipes for chicken which include fruit, she may take to these more easily. sorry can't give any more help.

have you tried butternut squash and pear? my ds started solids 2 weeks ago and so far the only thing he hasn't liked is pear, but he'll eat it mixed with butternut squash. He loves sweet potato too.

My ds loved butternut squash and pear. Have you tried pork and apple?? You could even mix a little creme fraiche into it.

parsnips and carrots are naturally sweet as well. I mix these with apple. As someone mentioned earlier Annabel Karmel does good recipes. Does your little one eat from frais? I sometimes mix a little of this in if they are not eating well.

how is she at night? is she waking to be fed? if not, then she must be getting enough. my hv suggested extra yoghurt etc when ds was not eating well (due to teething); gets a bit of extra protein in them.

agree about parsnip puree, it is incredibly sweet!!
