Do you do quinoa wet like dip or dryish like rice?

I had a Buddha bowl in a fancy cafe yesterday and one of the things in the bowl was a quinoa salad - but it was completely wet, like an aubergine dip sort of consistency. It was lovely! I have always done quinoa like a grain - so drained and fluffed, like rice.
I asked the chef and apparently it was just cooked as normal and then they put it in a salad dressing.
Do you do it wet or dryish?

Dry, definitely. Was it overcooked? What was the texture?

Mum2jenny · 11/10/2022 21:44

my dh would not eat it if his life depended on it, so I’m no good for a sensible response

It wasn't overcooked. It was the texture of... humus? Or dip? You could scoop it onto a cracker. It was really good!

I've only ever had it dry ish - I like the taste but it does get stuck in my teeth Blush Maybe a dip-like consistency would be better!

Maybe it was quinoa flour... a bit like the difference between rolled oats and porridge.

WeepingSomnambulist · 11/10/2022 22:37

If they mixed it into a salad dressing then of course it went dip like and scoopable.

PrunellaMcTat · 11/10/2022 22:46

No. It was quinoa, not quinoa flour.

@WeepingSomnambulist Well yes, I understand how putting wet on something made it wet! I was just asking if people recognised wet / dressed quinoa as a common way to eat it.

Dryish.
Wet, like dip sounds revolting to me!

pastabest · 11/10/2022 22:52

Yes I sometimes make it like this, and yes basically treat it in a similar way to humous.

I'm not a huge fan of chickpeas so it's a nice alternative. I usually have it with something like koftas and flatbreads

pastabest · 11/10/2022 22:55

This is similar to what I make, I don't use a recipe though.

Amazing! I learnt something today, so thanks to @PrunellaMcTat and @pastabest

I am going to try it tomorrow!

What on earth is a Buddha bowl?

paintitallover · 11/10/2022 23:37

Interesting recipe; I think I'll try it. Sometimes I make "hummus" with other pulses, eg flageolet beans.

What on earth is a Buddha bowl?

The ancestor of the poké bowl

WeAreLateAgain · 11/10/2022 23:49

I meant years ago, it was all about Buddha bowls, then they disappeared and poké bowls emerged. The original ones are an Hawaiian dish but restaurants will just put veggies, grains, fish/no fish, rice/no rice, seeds. sometimes fruit one next to the other and call it a bowl

PrunellaMcTat · 11/10/2022 23:49

Sometimes called a 'wellness bowl' or a 'nourishment bowl'.

I love them.
