Quality Enamelled Dishes

Does anyone have any recommendations? I want to buy a load to use in the freezer for batch cooking etc and making pies. They look much better than crappy foil dishes, seem to stack well and aren't single use. Plus you're not going to loose half your meal like the collapsing saggy foil ones!

The cheaper option is to visit all the local charity shops and buy any Pyrex (there are other brands) and pottery dishes. It’s amazing how cheap quality old pottery is.

My local Sainsbury's has a variety of enamel dishes. The ones I have seem good quality and are easily cleaned.

Falconware enamel.

Get a stacking set of roasting dishes and you are set, I use mine all the time and I've had some of them for years now.

However for batch cooking I prefer transferring into small plastic containers from Lakeland as they take up less room and are microwaveable.

TerfranosaurusVagina · 10/10/2022 20:50

Thanks ladies!
@Orangesare I specifically want enamelware as it stacks so nicely, but thats a great idea. My crockery is crocked (quite literally) so I've been thinking about getting a new set, something rustic and potteryish, so I'm going to keep my beady eyes out.

Is there anywhere that does a great price on falcon stuff? Am I better off buying a set?

And last but not least, can you use the roasters on the hob? You know, for deglazing and making gravy?

Bornn also have a great range. www.bornn.com.tr

I have some Bornn and some from sainsburys. The sainsburys stuff is cheaper and easy to get but the Bornn is beautiful and more of a special occasion thing.

TerfranosaurusVagina · 10/10/2022 21:33

@Blondeissimo Oooh they are pretty! But very spensive! Its just for everyday batch baking and the occasional oven to table entertaining bake.

It's definitely worth getting a set. I have the Baking set and TBH the Roasting set is better, as the 2 small pie dishes are too big for one and 2 small for two, so don't get a lot of use.

You can use them direct on the hob as well.

I bought some Falcon enamelware in Homesense but there wasn’t a lot. It was cheaper though.

TerfranosaurusVagina · 12/10/2022 10:22

Oh thanks @Wildernesstips was this recently?

It was about a month ago.

Wildernesstips · 22/10/2022 16:48

@TerfranosaurusVagina just seen that my local Sainsburys does the Falcon ones at the same price as Homesense.

CuriousEats · 22/10/2022 17:19

😍thanks for that!! Nothing like seeing them in the flesh! We've got a decent size sainsbury's near here so I'll have a look there

CuriousEats · 25/10/2022 21:44

@Wildernesstips you lovely lady. I've just been to sainsbury's and bought one. I'm going to build them up slowly and get rid of all my bulky dishes.

CuriousEats · 01/11/2022 13:07

Ahem. The wage came in and my building up slowly resolution went out. But look at the glory! Even the cat has got new bowls!

Love it! I treated myself to the oval lidded casserole dish.

carefulcalculator · 01/11/2022 21:18

Falcon is pretty cheap in our local independent, I just buy it there. I love it because it is unbreakable and light.

TerfranosaurusVagina · 01/11/2022 21:26

@Wildernesstips but is it big enough? I bought a 3kg bone in shin of beef the other day planning to cook it whole but I had nothing big enough apart from my 9L stock pot which would never fit in the oven! I had to take a big chunk off to fit it into my biggest casserole. It was absolutely gorgeous though! Jamie Olivers mexican beef chilli. 😍

@carefulcalculator yes I suddenly remembered about an independent store near my parents who stock absolutely everything you could ever need, and sure enough, they had it. Cheaper than sainsbury's too.

I did a large pork joint in it just to test it out, but probably wouldn’t fit a bone in joint. Have also used it for a coq au vin traybake.

carefulcalculator · 01/11/2022 21:46

I have now ventured onto the Falcon website and seen loads of ways to waste my money...!

Sorry!!
I'm now thinking of upgrading our picnic rucksack with falcon tumblers and plates. Ours came with plastic plates which have warped in the dishwasher. The double walled metal mugs have rusted in places and leave a funny taste in your mouth. And I can count on 1 hand the times we've actually used the plastic wine glasses. Plus you could use the plates to cook stuff in over the embers of the fire...
Next payday perhaps haha!

I use falcon cups and plates for picnics.
Also use a large tumbler for toothbrushes, soap dish, and have lots of the small round ones for garlic, key pots, tapas etc
