Need some ideas for when dp's family come over, and dp's dad has diabetes

I have dp and his parents coming to mine on 11th December. They will be coming for about lunch time, and leaving early evening. It is my dd's birthday on 15th, and with Christmas as well, I was thinking of doing a dinner or something special in celebration. I was thinking of doing a Christmas dinner, but not sure if this is a good idea or not, as I havent cooked one before. I do roasts which dp loves, but theyre just Tescos turkey joints which I just shove in the oven. Also dp's dad has diabetes, so cant do anything too sweet, so not sure what to do about desert. I was thinking of baking a cake or something, but not sure if thats such a good idea. Or should I do something more simpler? Like fancy sandwiches and little foods (cant remember what the word for them is! hope you know what i mean!) Any ideas as this is the first proper time dp's parents will be coming to mine, as the first and only time they did, they were here for 10 minutes picking up dp who had come down with glandular fever!! Thanks xxx

Do the roast TB. it sounds easy to cook and at least you know it turns out well. You can also bake a cake for everyone and buy a specila diabetec cake from a shop (maybe M&S do something a bit special?) as you shouldn't take any risks with sugar and FIL. My FIL is a diabetec and he never eats any kind of fat or sugar ever (for roast potatoes, I usually do some sepparately for him with no oil or fat at all) but he loves any kind of fruit so he's happy with a fruit salad when everybody else is having dessert, so that might be an option too.

im a bit worried as his diabetes has gotten worse this week, so i will ring dp's mum up before to double check what is allowed. my mum is a diabetes, but she isnt on the usual diabetes checklist, as she doesnt eat a lot and her sugar levels get low a lot, so has to eat a chocolate bar to boost them back up, so shes no help with this!

do the roast tb, always gos down well, and just do it as you normally do(joint from tesco), i would taste any different from one youve just plucked yourself
for sweet, go on to slimming world thread or website, when i used to go, they had some great low sugar recipies and some for diabetics.hth hun

Tammybear, hi there.... I am a diabetic on insulin four times aday, for almost 13 years now, and if I go out for a meal, I sort out my regime before I go out, and having something thats not quite suitable for a diabetic diet, every so often does not interfere with your blood sugars..... if I know I'm going to over do my sugar intake I top up my insulin units, and if need be I have had 5 injections in 1 day, to counteract any would-be hypers(high sugars) as opposed to hypos(low sugars). If you want to be an the safe side, just stick to a low fat, low sugar products, I never impose on any of my family, and none of them have ever asked if there is anything I can or can't eat.....If I have waffled SORRY................

thanks survivour. i would just do what i was originally thinking with baking a cake and all for desert as dp's dad did use to have the odd chocolate as he does have a sweet tooth but as his diabetes has gotten worse, hes trying to cut down on sweet things as much as possible which is why im a bit worried as i dont want to do anything that could cause trouble and i dont know all the details of his diabetes but i dont want to start asking too many questions as i think that may seem a bit rude. unless i stuff them all up so much on main dinner that i dont need to do a desert
