Does people from UK like to eat dates? Are there many date shops in UK?

I buy dates weekly - medjool ones from Waitrose - and eat them most days. Yum!

maximist · 02/10/2022 20:16

Ooh I love marzipan. Where can I find those dates please?

Just get a box of dates and a bar of marzipan, cut open the dates, take the stones out, make some small rolls of marzipan and put them in. Easy peasy and yummy!

wizzywig Oh indeed they do! I gave some for presents last Christmas and they've been requested for this year.

I've had some gorgeous treats from here
www.thedatery.co.uk/

I've just placed an order, lots of different products to try.

If they taste as good as they look and are described, I feel Christmas gifts for loved ones coming up. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊

I always have them in. I don't eat many, though, as they're quite calorific. Although great for fibre.

Xiaoxiong · 03/10/2022 11:21

For all you date-lovers who are looking for something that isn't sweet, this is a stonking recipe: One-pot chicken with caramelised lemon and dates

I make it with either flatbread or some kind of grain on the side, and a chopped salad. The dates make the dish!

I love dates stuffed with a blob of cream cheese and a walnut or pecan as a treat, it's not diet food though...

Bramshott · 03/10/2022 11:26

Love dates! I eat a couple every day with nuts for a snack. I tend to get the dried ones from the health food shop as they're cheaper.

Quadri · 03/10/2022 14:06

Thanks all let me tell you one thing dates come in various qualities, some are so amazing that if you break the fast in Ramdan with just one you will feel it has finished your whole day tiredness hunger and thrist, some are very sweet some are not very sweet, some are moist some are dry depend whichone you like. I am not sure what category of dates you have in UK but reading your comments not sure if I should tear my UK dates business plan or keep it.

Supermarkets sell several types of dates all year round with extra varieties at Ramadan and Christmas. I don't think many non-muslim Brits eat them regularly though, other than in cakes. They aren't very popular. They are the kind of thing that your grandmother bought at Christmas that sat in the box uneaten.

There are specialist date shops in London, like in the Middle East, and you can buy them online. You can also get fresh dates here.

Tear it up.
Its not hard to get dates here as this thread shows

Mingot · 03/10/2022 14:36

I wouldn't bother putting much money into that business idea.

I dislike dates and think that's pretty common here

AJamEater · 03/10/2022 14:40

You will never get the good people of Whitehaven to eat enough dates to support a business unless they're in a Sticky Toffee Pudding. But if you're setting up an online business there will be plenty of cheap office space about?

chesirecat99 · 03/10/2022 14:45

Just to add, Bateel already have several boutiques in Central London. I think they are very much catering to the Middle Eastern market though. Dates just aren't very popular here. They were very much a Christmas tradition when I was growing up but nobody really liked them so they have fallen out of fashion.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 03/10/2022 14:47

I don't know why this has made me laugh so much.

Is your dates business plan online or a physical shop? There are some parts of London that you'd probably do pretty well (Edgware Rd springs to mind) but I think you may need to diversify a little.

Shiboleth1 · 03/10/2022 14:49

You can buy dates in every supermarket. I eat them straight from the packet and also cook with them.

Cumbria I’m guessing from his other thread but presumably online

No they're full of dead insects Envy

I think you need to expand your product selection, just dates is pretty niche

Quadri · 03/10/2022 15:10

@ChocChipOwl check when buying dont buy old and expired ones

OP posts:
chesirecat99 · 03/10/2022 15:18

I'm not sure it would do well on Edgware Road even - too much competition.

miltonj · 03/10/2022 15:21

Yes dates are stocked in super markets. Not just at eid. People eat them just as a snack but also in baking and cooking. Medjool dates are probably the best type.

Madamecastafiore · 03/10/2022 15:46

Yes our local farm shop and M&S do them all year. Love them for a quick sweet fix.

Cheeselog · 03/10/2022 15:48

I love dates but just buy them from the supermarket all year round rather than a dedicated shop. Usually medjool.
