Is this mould on my bread?

I feel really stupid asking this. Normally when the bread goes mouldy in our house it's green. But the past few loaves we've noticed these grey bits that we haven't seen before so wondered if it's mould or something else.
It's Warburtons Toastie bread in case that makes a difference.

Is this mould on my bread?

Yes it is.

fairgame84 · 24/09/2022 11:01

I thought so. DS has been carrying on eating it. Grim.

Cut the crusts off and eat the rest

WeAreLateAgain · 24/09/2022 20:54

Not sure I would eat it, even with crust cut off

I binned it. I'm heavily pregnant so would never eat it. DS on the other hand is 17 and eats and drinks any old shite. He has the constitution of an ox.

I'd just pick it off and still eat it! 😂 But probably wouldn't if I was pregnant.

EarringsandLipstick · 24/09/2022 21:32

You'd be fine cutting the crusts off & eating it, pregnant or not. What do you think will happen?

parietal · 24/09/2022 21:40

Tiny bit of mould. Cut the crusts off and toast it well.

It doesn't take much for me to get an upset stomach. I don't really want to risk shitting and vomiting through labour.

Otherwise I would just cut off the crust and eat it.

Ah ok, I didn't realise you were just about to have baby!

But honestly mouldy bread would be really unlikely to affect anyone's tummy & certainly not to that extent. It's just that the bread isn't fresh & won't taste good.

WonderingWanda · 24/09/2022 22:08

I think you are right not to eat it if pregnant but I am sure your ds will be fine. I've survived accidental bread mould eating many times.

ChocChipOwl · 24/09/2022 22:09

Yuk. I wouldn't cut off crusts and eat it. Mould can be white and invisible.

Just chick straight in the bin

BlackForestCake · 29/09/2022 23:11

I usually get blue mould on bread, not black or green. Does it vary by where you are?

Jellybean23 · 29/09/2022 23:18

Eating mouldy bread is not advised. There was a programme I watched once which covered foods which were ok to eat (if the mould was cut off). Cheddar cheese was ok, bread definitely NOT.

42isthemeaning · 29/09/2022 23:19

That's definitely mould.
I always wonder about brown pitta breads with white stuff on them - I can't decide if it's flour or white mouldy stuff!

PickAChew · 29/09/2022 23:22

Bread is full of holes. The mould hardly stays on the surface.

I've noticed that bread on the verge of blooming gets a weird sweet smell.

It's weird because this grey mould is new. We always used to get green mould, we've used Warburtons for years so i wonder if they have changed any ingredients in the bread.
