Please talk to me about potato ricers

A potato ricer is something I've considered buying for a while, as I love mashed potato but hate the mashing.

I'm put off by the amount of space it will take up vs how much I will use it.

The only other thing I mash is suede. Has anyone used their ricer for that or is it too fibrous to work?

Does anyone use it for anything else?

I'm guessing the potatoes cool down quite a lot whilst ricing so the mash would need to be reheated?

Thanks

I still need to mash the potatoes before putting them in the ricer or I can’t squeeze it.

have you tried Smaller pieces plus a bit
more cooking time?

They’re easy to clean - just put them in a bowl of hot soapy water immediately after using them!

you can overwork potatoes in terms of mashing/ blending / whipping what wee you want to call it and they can become
glue like. Particularly if you don’t use very floury potatoes

@marylou25
I'm interested...what do you mean by electric mixer? like the one you'd beat cream with?

I got a potato river from ikea recently. I love it. Mashed the potatoes super quickly no lumps And minimum effort.

I find it easy, and good for doing small amounts. Shove a couple of potato's in skins in the microwave until soft. Cut potato in half. shove /squish the half through the ricer. Pick out the skin...
Saves me peeling

Wash it? It goes in the dishwasher!

@Bonheurdupasse

Yes, electric thing with handle on top and with two beaters you stick in, I would use it to whip cream too or make cakes etc. Bog standard hand held mixer

I wanted one for ages. Used it once and went back to a masher. It's so much easier.

This.

My MIL always made mash with her electric 30 year old cake mixer. Works a treat.
