Twice as much water as rice by volume (eg 1 mug rice, 2 mugs water)

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 01/09/2022 16:04

What @5zeds said.

Ahhh so if I empty rice packet into something like a measuring cup then use up to the same level x 2 for water?

Sorry to sound thick .., it's a left over pack from my gusto box and when I cooked as per their instructions I had the most perfect rice ever! Of course like a tool I threw the card away Grin

Any suggestions once cooked how to prevent it sticking on bottom of the pan?!

Gousto suggests 225ml water for 130g long grain rice.

I shall compare Grin

I do 1.5x water to rice, always works.

BackT · 01/09/2022 16:57

I do 1.5 too. Specially if you have washed the rice. Comes out perfect. Make sure you leave it covered for at least 10 minutes without opening the lid.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 01/09/2022 17:06

I do 1.5 liquid or it goes too sticky

ReadtheReviews · 01/09/2022 17:09

I'm a 'by feel' cook Grin. I put in enough water so it covers the rice by about a centimetre. Boil until the rice is level with the water then take off the heat, add a dash of cold and leave for ten or fifteen. Doesn't stick and not soggy.

Mmmm a few more methods.

Seems I have some experimenting to do Grin

Thanks all for replying.

Bring to the boil, lid on simmer for 12 mins the water will then be gone. Turn it off and ignore it till you are ready to eat then fluff it up with a couple of chopsticks.
different rice takes different amounts of water eg sushi 1.2 times volume of rice works for me.

SummaLuvin · 01/09/2022 18:17

I find Meera Sodhas method great, I eyeball the amount of water at this point. I wash 3-5 times and always soak, as it makes such as huge difference, once the lid is on I turn the hob to the lowest setting.

Cm078 · 01/09/2022 18:20

I use enough to cover the rice, boil the water, then add the rice, turn heat down to lowest setting and leave for 20 minutes.
Comes.out perfect and fluffy. Unless ive not put enough water in, but think I've got the hang of it now!

Rinatinabina · 01/09/2022 18:21

I do 1 rice 1.5 water, small nob of butter.
bring to the boil then stick lid on lowest heat for 12 minutes
leave to stand for another ten minutes without opening the lid then fluff.

Probably not useful for tonight, but Gousto have almost all of their recipes online so if you try to google the recipe name you might find the original method.
