Should I be worried ? My 2 yr old dd won't drink milk at home.

My 2 yr old dd had a tummmy bug at Christmas during which time we didn't give her any milk as per Dr's advice. Prior to this we had only been giving her the one bottle, at bedtime - and no other milk during the day. When she was better we thought we'd use this as an opportunity to stop giving her a bottle at bedtime and try offering it in a cup instead. She wouldn't take it - but didn't ask for the bottle back either. After chucking away cup after cup of milk, we didn't offer it at bedtime anymore. We've since offered it in a cup during the day but she never has it. Of course, she always drinks it out of her cup at nursery (3 days a week) - presumably because the other kids do !!! She has at least 2 small yoghurts a day and often has cheese. And when she has cereal (prob twice a week), she's happy to have it then. Should I be worried ? How much milk should a child her age be having per day ??

I just answered a similar question on another post.

They should have 400 mls or 2/3 pint whole milk a day after they're a year old.

I guess you could try buying cartons with a straw, like some preschools use, but then I guess you'd always have to buy it and she'd still refuse a cup.

Maybe you could ask preschool to chat to her about how great it is that she can drink from a cup and ask them if you provide them with a cup 'present' from them, she could take it home to use at her house. Something like a plastic, sparkly fairy one should do the trick!

or what about getting a character curly straw - kids love drinking from straws.

My kids never dru k milk after being weaned from the breast (at 12 mths and 30 mths) I never offered it actually. They don't need it.Like yours, they had yoghurt and cheese.

Thanks for the advice. She is happy to use a cup. I think its the fact that the other kids are doing it at nursery that means she drinks it there. We always gave her it warm when she had it in a bottle so maybe its the temperature she doesn't like. She'll happily eat cereal and like I said she has yoghurt and cheese. Add this to the milk she does drink at nursery and I hope that'll be enough.... I'll keep trying different things though.
