People with picky eaters .. have you ever tried spicing up their food?

rather than blanding it down

adding chilli

choosing extra mature cheddar rather than mild

I'm not saying it will work .. but sometimes .. particularly in the difficult toddler years .. I have found that the spicier the food the more likely they are to try it .. whereas one's natural inclination is to bland it down

anyhoo .. just a thought ...

Yes. Ds2 is great with spicier foods. He loves curries, and always asks for nachos or samosas, unfortunately he won't eat mince in any shape or form, so chilli is out

I menat of course that DS2 is a fussy eater

My friend always used to put a big dollop of extra virgin olive oil in her baby's mush - worked a treat.

Always used extra mature chedder with my kids - never seen the point of the mild variety, tastes like soap.

And most kids I know love olives - something we as a generation of kids generally hated. I think it's something to do with kids nowadays (rightly) being deprived of salt and craving it in things like olives?

But as for chilli - no - my kids can taste it at a hundred yards and refuse to eat anything that's got it in it.

DD won't eat vegetables, so I either mash them into potato or I put them in small chunks in pasta sauce. I use good quality strong tasting ones like Sacla and Loyd Grossman. She seems to like the strong taste and she can't see the veg. in it! She prefers my string cheddar to things like Babybels and bizarrely she likes olives.

strong sorry, not string, that made it sound like I eat cheesestrings!

But it's the initial thing of getting it into their mouth....
DS just will not try anything he considers suspect, including mince, potatoes, green vegetables, eggs, pasta, cheese that hasn't been grated. The list goes on.
He will see the plate. Say no. And push it away. Is so frustrating. DD eats most things, though not keen on spice, but loves mature cheese. And there's ds, all grumpy in his chair holding out for something he recognises will be OK.
Ho hum. Rant over.
Am just trying to not show that it bothers me and to be all tra la la when he rejects yet another meal in the hope that he'll grow out of it.
