I am still feeding my 17 month old formula twice a day.

Am I silly and wrong?

(but seriously when should you stop using it??)

Your not silly or wrong! I swapped my DS to Cows milk at 12 months, as my health visitor told me there was no nutritional need to keep him on formula as long as he was getting a good diet. (it's also a lot cheaper!)

I was also told they should have about 1 pint of dairy every day, but that includes Yogurt, cheese, etc.....

I stopped at 1 year and ds (15 months) has cows milk twice a day from a lidded beaker instead. It is fine from 1 year and a lot cheaper and takes less time to prepare i.e. take milk from fridge, pour into cup and serve!!

Not wrong = but (IMHO) a bit silly - as you're wasting a lot of money - I'd switch to cows milk personally (but then I'm tight so just ignore me )

my dd is 2.2 and STILL on formula.
every time i try to guve her cows milk, she wakes in the night, upset and grumbly. as i have only tried about 3 times, it may just be coincidence, but im not yet brave enough to try again yet as she has only just started sleeping all night long and dont want to risk upsetting this.
i do feel a bit silly buying formula at this age, and have asked many of my mum friends for thier opinion about this. most have said its good for her as long as she wants it, and the only downside is the cost, but as she is only having a tub every 2 weeks, its not too bad.
i think it is your own personal choice. also your childs too!!

When you used to be able to get your formula from the clinic it worked out much the same price as cows milk. Ggggrrrr that they have stopped selling it.

I stopped at 1. Over about 3 days. On day 1 I stopped the mid afternoon bottle and gave cows milk instead.
Day 2, swopped over the breakfast bottle.
Day 3 swopped over the bedtime bottle.

Interesting.

I tend to think that cow's milk (ok I buy organic) is more expensive.

And I still have to heat it up.

If she would drink it cold that would be great...

Mind you she has the biggest tummy around, perhaps there are also calorie issues here.

My dd is 20 months old and still has one bottle of formula at bedtime. She was unwell a lot since September and ended up in hospital in December. She has a very small appetite and I was worried she wasn't eating enough. I spoke to a nurse about it and she said dd's iron levels were excellent and not to worry about giving up the formula at the moment. Everytime I buy a carton I think this will be the last one but dd loves her bedtime bottle so I just haven't been able to do it yet.

I stopped at ne and personally I'd prefer to change over from formula to cows milk because cows doesn't have anything added to it.
It's your choice though, I've never heard anything about having to stop at a certain point.

Thanks everyone xx
