How to get my 14 month DD to like porridge?

She will eat finger food type cereal - rice krispies and shreddies although resorted to cheerios this week for a change. I can't get her to eat anything mushy like porridge, weetabix etc... I really want to vary her breakfasts and get more milk into her as well so porridge would be ideal. I've tried adding stewed fruit/raisins/maple syrup. She is not impressed - any ideas?

try ready brek and see if she'll eat that

make croissants and a glass of milk instead?
or scrambled egg on toast?

dunno. if they dont like it, they dont like it. i would have said maple syrup, and letting her make/help/pour the syrup (perhaps decant an allowed amount into a little jug first), but if youve tried all that...

I do sympathis, my DD went through a stage like this. She did eat Weetabix dry as a finger food, with some fruit and a glass of milk on the side. We also had moderate success with polenta, made with milk and chopped dried fruit and left to harden, then cut into strips. You could probably also try this method with porridge perhaps?

Someone will be here in a mo to talk about porridge pancakes I expect. They're famous.

what about making rice pudding?

Have you tried adding a chopped banana, and a little muscavado sugar? My DS loves that but turns porridge with golden syrup in it down. My DD likes it with strawberry jam.

Chocolatl · 21/01/2008 10:56

ah, egg allergy must be a worry. soz cant help.

how about OatsoSimple? It's Quaker and I think more basic than Ready Brek. They have flavoured ones which are wuite yummy r you can have plain and add your own stuff.

Or maybe cereal bars? My DS hasn't eaten porridgey type stuff since he was a baby but will happilt tuck into Organix cereal bars

Maple syrup yummmmmmm or make a banana porridge . Alternatively you can make porridge using part apple juice as liquid it makes it sweeter.
