Tell me why it's good and explain what exactly it is please Grin

Me too! Placemarking for ideas.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 15/08/2022 17:51

I love mine. Does oven chips way better than an oven! Hallumi is good in it, as is tofu, as are roasties

Munchyseeds2 · 15/08/2022 17:55

In effect its just a small oven that uses less energy and cooks faster than a big oven
Love mine and use it most days

ProperVexed · 15/08/2022 17:57

Which one did you buy and why?

purplewolfie · 15/08/2022 17:59

I love mine! Today I tossed nuts in salt and maple syrup. 180 for 8 mins with a shake halfway through.

Munchyseeds2 · 15/08/2022 18:00

Just did frozen southern fried chicken to have with salad took 10 mins
Will do salmon fillets in 7 mins
Chips in 15 mins etc
Give it a go, cook for less time than you would think, you can always cook for a little longer

Office247 · 15/08/2022 18:01

Cuts time
healthier
less energy
i would never ever be without one now
i have a ninja Foodi max

Hugasauras · 15/08/2022 18:01

I got the Ninja 9 in 1 with air fryer, pressure cooker and slow cooker. I feel a bit overwhelmed and finding it hard to visualise how it works but once it gets here I'm sure all will be clear!

DM has an actifry and all meat is done in it, also chips, wedges, and 'roasted' carrots/parsnips. Can do most of a fry up in it too, bacon, sausages, hash browns, tomatoes, mushrooms, though I'm not brave enough to try eggs or beans in it Grin

I have a Daewoo halogen air fryer. I haven't used my oven for months, can steam frozen veg and do jacket potatoes in it as well as pizza.

DorotheaDiamond · 15/08/2022 18:03

I've got the 11 in 1 - can anyone recommend a decent cookbook for it? All the online recipes are appallingly chatty and unhelpful - I want simple instructions for how to do things that I already know how to do but with the Ninja!

Timeforabiscuit · 15/08/2022 18:41

Just learning to use one too,

Day 1 jacket potatoes, technically a big hit , airfryer had them looking stunningly crispy, but they were raw 2 cms down so I needed to finish them for 20 mins in the microwave I. Was. NOT. Happy! Next time I'd either start cooking them for 10 mins in the microwave and then do them in the airfryer, I think its because we store jacket potatoes in the fridge

Day 2 salmon and paprika potatoes - salmon was great, still moist with amazing crispy skin, potatoes were solid, looked amazing but were a touch dry and the airfryer instructions used more oil than I would usually use. Was impressed with the synch function though.

We had a curry tonight and I think anything like pakoras, samosas or bhajis would be great - but I had the oven on already.

PeloAddict · 15/08/2022 18:48

I live alone and it's great for when you want to do something small
Like a part baked roll, naan bread etc
I've got strong roots veg fries in it at the min and chicken dippers Grin as I CBA cooking
I've chopped up potatoes before in small cubes and sprayed with oil and seasoned, they were really good

Oblomov22 · 15/08/2022 18:49

I want one. But I don't fry that much and don't want to. Watching for ideas.

I don't really use it for things I'd fry- more things I'd roast. I also tend not to add oil and it still turns out fine.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/08/2022 19:27

@Oblomov22 they are not really fryers, it's a misleading name. They are basically meal sized fan ovens. I have a Costco own brand that I bought off Marketplace, and an Instant pot.

I used mine to do wedges whilst I grilled burgers earlier. Made flapjack in it recently. Good for warming up garlic bread.

ToDoListAddict · 15/08/2022 19:29

I'm so tempted to buy one but not a clue which one to get!

Lots of useful info on here!

Haudyourwheesht · 15/08/2022 19:34

I try very little but have barely turned my oven on since I got mine. I've done, roasted potatoes and veg, roast chicken (50 mins for a medium chicken!), chicken drumsticks and thighs, sausages. It's great for fish fingers and waffles for the kids if you're in a hurry. I've also done frozen pastries (croissants and the like) for breakfast really quickly.

I've not tried baking in it but apparently you can.

Haudyourwheesht · 15/08/2022 19:35

I fry very little

AbsolutelyNebulous · 15/08/2022 19:58

@Oblomov22 I rarely fry either but as pps have said it’s more a mini oven than anything. I’ve done fresh fish, baby potatoes, Med style veg, halloumi & veg for fajitas, veggie burgers/sausages, fish cakes. It makes lovely toasties (butter the outside of the bread), oven chips come out nice and crispy, bhajis, samosas, anything in breadcrumbs of course, crispy chickpeas for snacking etc.

They don’t take any time to reach temperature and cook most things faster and at a lower temp than a conventional oven so I would say there is a reasonable energy saving.

NannyR · 15/08/2022 20:03

I've just done a baked potato in mine and it was delicious. I normally really dislike microwaved potatoes and would do them in the oven for an hour so they have a crispy skin and fluffy inside. In the interests of saving energy, I tried microwaving a large potato for 6 min then put it in the air fryer for 6-7 minutes and it turned out lovely, the skin was just like an oven baked potato.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/08/2022 20:05

I've only just got a hand me down one. I microwaved jacket potatoes for a few minutes first and they were ready in less than half an hour in total and perfect. Cake was less successful but I think a larger quantity might have worked. Roast or stir fry veg are perfect. Chips or roasties better than the oven.

Don’t try cake unless you have a Bundt pan…outside lovely middle totally raw!

merrymarch · 16/08/2022 04:11

@Dorotheadiamond what's a Bundt pan?
