Will it now taste pickled? 😭

Eugh,,

loopylindi · 14/08/2022 14:09

No. It will be ok -depends on quantity though. I do use red/white wine vinegar but only by the spoonful

underneaththeash · 14/08/2022 14:11

It will be okay. Taste it and add a bit of brown sugar if needed.

Honkytonky12 · 14/08/2022 14:12

Two table spoons I think 🙈

If you put a glassful in I would expect it to taste acidic. I would try and rescue it with some salt / stock / marmite. Keep adding and tasting if it’s not already layered up and in the oven. If it’s in the oven already then fingers crossed!

CottonSock · 14/08/2022 14:13

Try and add bicarbonate of soda. Fizzes off the acid. Little at a time.

Taste it and find out Hmm

It will be fine. Just cook it off until you can't smell or taste it. It will actually add flavour. If it's really bad, add a bit of sugar.

Honkytonky12 · 14/08/2022 14:19

Thank you it's all going in the slow cooker so hoping it will burn off. Added some sugar too. 🤞 It will be OK.

A pinch of bicarbonate will take the edge off the acidity, just add a pinch at a time. Don’t add sugar, it will just end up tasting sweet and sour. Maybe add a pinch of nutmeg too.

Although I did wonder, what wine do you drink that you didn’t notice a glass of vinegar? 😬

KatherineJaneway · 14/08/2022 14:23

Add sweetness to counter the vinegar.

Madcats · 14/08/2022 14:25

Unless it is a teeny tiny lasagne, you should be fine. I often drizzle a bit of balsamic vinegar on unremarkable tomatoes to perk them up.

I suspect that the white sauce and cheese will disguise it too.

Honkytonky12 · 14/08/2022 15:14

It's definitely got a sour taste/kick to it to it not the tomato taste I wanted 😭. Not sure what else to do. It already grated carrot, celery and onion. I've added sugar and it taste sweet but with a bit of sour 🙈

Try marmite. Just a bit. It will add some richness that might help hide the bitterness.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 14/08/2022 15:17

Bicarb. Might go a bit orange tho.

Honkytonky12 · 15/08/2022 19:22

It actually turned out really nice!

I was going to say as long as it wasn’t too much it should work out to be just fine with some sugar to balance it. Glad it turned out well in the end. 👍

TwoBlondes · 15/08/2022 19:40

No helpful advice, but I once made DD a birthday cake using salt instead of caster sugar 🤢

Lemonblossom · 15/08/2022 19:43

It’s fine. I put balsamic in mine all the time

abovedecknotbelow · 15/08/2022 19:44

How was it op? Stifado uses red wine vinegar and it's delicious, so maybe you just ended up with a Greek lasagne!

Honkytonky12 · 15/08/2022 19:52

By the time I cooked it in the slow cooker, added sugar and more herbs it actually turned out very nice. Definitely didn't taste pickled. Oh dear Two Blondes I am guessing that didn't turn out great 🙈 xx
