Ninja hot and cold soup blender.

I wonder if anyone has one of these and would you recommend it?

I really want one but it looks like a bulky bit of kit to store and I'm not convinced if I'm driven by its practical purpose or if I'm being hoodwinked by my inner kitchen gadget magpie.

Do you use it as much as you imagine you would? The jug looks huge, does it cope okay with smaller amounts of stuff? How lazy can you be with chopping veg - could you put in carrots chopped in 1 inch chunks or would the blade struggle with that? Is it a pita to clean?

I have a hot and cold blender, not the ninja one. It heats up rather than cooks, I'd say.

It's unbelievably loud! Very effective though.

Mine says you have to add cooked veg, but it copes with frozen peas etc. obviously tinned things work as well. You can make a great fake heinz cream of tomato with tomatoes and tinned carrots.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/08/2022 20:53

Ah, this might not be what I was looking for then. I'm going to have to do more research. Thanks for the heads-up picklemewalnuts.

The reviews suggest it does cook first. Don't let my other blender put you off!

One thing we noticed- the soup is almost moussey, it's feels a little foamy in the mouth. Some of us see that as a benefit, one of us doesn't like it!

FourTeaFallOut · 09/08/2022 21:28

I wish there was a way to test drive it 😁 I'm not entirely sure whether moussey soup is a bonus.

I suppose it's thickened without thickener, so that's good... I like it, but I'm not that fussy.

Is it this one ?

You can buy from QVC , 4 Easo Pays at the moment and IIRC everything has a 60 day money back guarentee
P&P is high and return P&P higher

I'm not convinced you can cook soup in 20 minutes though , I like slow cooked veg or lentil

FourTeaFallOut · 09/08/2022 21:54

Yes, that's it! Going with QVC is a really good idea. I'd forgotten that they will take used returns. I wonder if you can extend the cooking time? The woman on the qvc presentation was putting in Jersey potatoes whole, so that's hopeful.

I had one. I did lots of research and was really excited. However it just wasn't for me/us. Really heavy jug,the soup tasted weird and it didn't really make enough.

SergeiL · 09/08/2022 22:13

It does cook. You can sauté and then add veg and stock and it boils it all up and whizzes it. The jug is heavy and it is incredibly loud but it makes lovely soup. And has a self clean cycle (which isn’t perfect but pretty good). It is big - ours is out on display and looks pretty cool!

FourTeaFallOut · 10/08/2022 07:02

Thanks, sounds like it could go one of two ways! I think I'll buy one in autumn when I hit full soup making mode and QVC it in case it's not for me. Appreciate all your help.

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/08/2022 09:02

It does saute (some of the small jug ones don't which puts me off them, I don't want boiled onion , and if I'm using a pan to saute onion , I might as well use it to cook soup !) If I'm very organised I slice a bag of onions (Food Processer , no tears Smile ) then slow roast , portion up and freeze )

Price on Amazon is the same as QVC lower price (and quicker delivery )

The soup maker looks good for when you have a load of randm veg ( that's what I keep telling myself when I'm thinking about buying one )

SergeiL · 10/08/2022 09:10

I really got into the swing of it before the weather started boiling me alive! It’s great for stumps of broccoli and the like. It genuinely does make lovely soup… and smoothies and milkshakes!

Snoredoeurve · 10/08/2022 09:19

Ive got a much cheaper soup maker and I cook on chunky first then blend separately( has a blend button)
Otherwise its frothy.
Mine was £39.99
You would need to make a heck of a lot of soup for 150 quid!

SergeiL · 10/08/2022 09:23

Well good for you!

My Ninja wasn’t £150 and is one of my very few indulgences.

I was replying to the Op who wasnt sure about the Ninja.

AlfredoWoolum · 10/08/2022 09:27

I personally do not recommend you to buy this because there are lots of other better options in the blender, or you can also check blender reviews in goodycs and take a professional suggestion from them.

Moon22 · 10/08/2022 09:30

My soup maker is one of the best things I have. I have a Tefal one- I think it was about £60. I put off buying one for about 2 years because I thought it would be just another gadget. But I get loads of use from it.. take soup to work most days! Treat yourself!

isthismylifenow · 10/08/2022 09:35

I have a soup maker but its not the Ninja one. That seems quite pricy for what it is tbh.

I use mine quite a lot. It does cook the soup, not just heat. But for a nicer flavoured soup I do tend to precook the veg / or just saute and then use the machine.

I like the blender bit, as I use it for cold things as well.

I have in fact made more pasta sauce in it than anything else. If I see tomato/peppers etc going cheap then I buy a load and make batches of pasta sauce which I then freeze into portions. They come in so handy during a busy week.

Choopi · 10/08/2022 09:47

I bought a soup maker a couple of weeks ago, it was reduced to €25 in tesco. I have only used it a few times but love it already. Really no faff soup. I think it said the veg has to be chopped no bigger than 1 inch chunks, so I just chop veg and the liquid and seasoning and come back to lovely soup in 20mins.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/08/2022 10:36

I know the ninja one is more expensive than others on the market but I've been so impressed with the ninja foodi, which I use almost every day, that I was ready to pay the premium for the ninja.

At the risk of revealing the true extent of my laziness, I'm much more likely to use it if I don't have to wash an additional pan to fry up the onion/ bacon first, if I can get away with just giving the veg a cursory chop before they go in and if the self cleaning function actually does a good job.

OP posts:
SergeiL · 10/08/2022 10:56

The self cleaning does a good job but you might need to give it a swill. The chopping and sauté is great. That was what swung it for me as I also didn’t want to dirty another pan and sauté garlic and onion at the beginning does make a difference I think.

My only caution is if you have weak wrists / grip as the jug is a beast!

SergeiL · 10/08/2022 10:57

What also swung it for me was when glass jug. I definitely didn’t want anything non stick.

Houston, I think you have a problem.

Just saw this thread again

I bought a Morphy Richards Saute and Soup ( it was reduced to £40 in Sainsbury) I use it a couple of times a week especially if I have some odd vegetables .
I roasted some onions while the oven was on for something else and froze in tubs . I freeze any leftover potato or roast potatoes .

Tonights soup was - roast onion, red pepper , a red chilli, three tomatoes going a bit soft, three frozen roast potatoes , some tomatoe puree and Marigold Bouillon powder . Deicious (and vegan)
