Is it ok to occasionally give dd 3.3 years semi-skimmed cows milk, she usually has full-fat but sometimes if we have run out she has semi, i'm sure i remember hearing that semi was ok to drink after 2 years, but can't remember who/where i got this info from. does anyone know if this is ok now and again?

Yeah - used to be that you were only supposed to give full fat to children under five. Recent discussion with a health professional, and this has now been altered. Semi-skimmed can be given to 2 year olds and up.

My DD, aged nearly 3 has been drinking semi-skimmed exclusively since the summer. I noticed that if I gave her semi-skimmed she would drink more of it than when I gave her full fat, no doubt because it's less filling. They both have the same amount of calcium in, so she is getting more calcium this way. She eats well and is big so gets enough calories from her food. The only reason I give her milk is for the calcium. And, yes, I have also heard that it's OK after age 2.

I recently read that full fat milk contains more vitamin A and D than semi-skimmed - even though they both contain the same amount of calcium.

Yes, ds always has it.

Definitely OK as an occasional thing.
Also OK all the time from 2 onwards if they have a good all-round diet.

My DD is going through a really faddy stage with food at the moment she was previously a good eater, which is really frustrating. I didn't know full-fat milk contained more vitamins A and D, so i'll try and make sure we don't run out. Thanks for the messages on this, I never get the chance to see my HV.

DS (3) has been on semi for yonks, We found when we switched to having our milk delivered from the dairy as opposed to buying from the supermarket it used to make him cough and catch his throat, obviously the dairy milk is richer for some reason?
