Storing freshly picked lettuce

Yesterday I picked up a lettuce at the local community garden, washed it (finding at least 2 slugs in the process) but forgot to put it in the fridge until this morning.

I'm presuming it will still be safe to eat, but Google gave me some very conflicting answers. So just to be on the safe side, what do we all think?

It’ll be fine, although possibly a bit limp. I’d freshen it up in cold water, spin in salad spinner and put in fridge in plastic bag.

It's what I get for basking in the smugness of a local lettuce, I became very lazy!

Thanks, I'll give that a go. If all else fails, it'll be a decent coleslaw ingredient.

yes it will be fine. I soak lettuce in the sink for a few hours from my allotment. This makes all the beasts come out. It will also rehydrate the leaves if they have become a bit floppy

I always rehydrate leaves in a large bowl of water

To store in the fridge you can wrap a damp piece of kitchen towel around the end
