Reheating spag bol

If I make a spag bol to leave in the fridge to reheat the next day, can I cook and leave it with the pasta in? Literally so the whole meal comes out the fridge and reheats?

What about if I freeze it

I mean I'd quite happily do that with a cheese sauce but I've never done it with a bolognese

Yes, just mix the pasta in with the bolognese so the pasta doesn't get stuck together and put it in a Tupperware once cooled down. I do this all the time x

CantaloupeMelon · 21/07/2022 10:55

Yes, that's fine OP.

ShirleyPhallus · 21/07/2022 10:56

Fried spag bol is the best ever. To reheat, tip it all in a frying pan with a little oil then stir it only slowly and occasionally. Add the cheese directly to the pan and let the little bits go crispy. Sooooo good

SunnyKlara · 21/07/2022 10:56

Sure, the pasta isn't quite ad nice as freshly cooked, but it's fine.

I've never frozen cooked pasta though, don't know how that would work, I imagine the pasta might disintegrate on recooking

The pasta will continue to absorb moisture from the sauce, particularly when it's reheated, and will probably go a bit bleugh. It will be like eating overcooked pasta.
From a food safety POV there's no reason why you can't do it, but from a 'niceness to eat' angle, I wouldn't. A new batch of pasta would take less than 10 mins to cook, and you've got to heat up the sauce anyway, so for the sake of a saving of about 5 minutes, why would you?

Georgyporky · 21/07/2022 12:49

I'd reheat the bol, but cook fresh spag .
Re-heated pasta is awful.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2022 12:52

It will be fine in the fridge just microwave it .

PortalooSunset · 21/07/2022 13:09

If I'm freezing a pasta dish (with sauce) I add a bit of the pasta water to it before freezing. Helps it not dry out on reheating.

ithoughtitmihtbenicetochat · 21/07/2022 13:10

I reheat it all the time, it doesn't go bleurgh.
Never tried freezing it, but ready meals work fine, so I'd imagine it follows the same principle.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2022 13:14

I've tried freezing macaroni in batches it didn't reheat great.

Icedlatteplease · 21/07/2022 16:02

Thanks people

for the sake of a saving of about 5 minutes, why would you?

I would but the people reheating have other more immediate needs/priorities than cooking. If I can make it that bit easier it is a nice thing to do

I cannot believe a grown up woman would ask this question. How to reheat spaghetti and if it's ok to do it? Really?

Icedlatteplease · 21/07/2022 16:59

No I'm a 2 year old child with exceptional typing and internet skills....🙄🙄🙄

Or I might be a slightly harassed middle aged woman who has to leave for 36 hours at short notice to help family members dealing with a medical emergency who has to leave food for SN child to be reheated by his carers!!! 🤦‍♀️😖🤣

On this occasion I'll take mumsnet experience over using my common sense and getting it wrong....

Sometimes the reason you cant believe something is just because the the person you're judging is dealing with unbelievably difficult circumstances!!!

Haha my reply to that would have been a lot less gracious! Good luck OP 💐
