...They all things I buy fresh for the fridge and they go off before I used them all.

Can they be defrosted and eaten on their own? I know it's better fresh. I'd really like to have a big selection for the dcs. (I normally have bananas, pears, satsumas and apples on the kitchen table to take as and when)

I'd just like to waste less food.

hotchocscot · 16/01/2008 22:59

i'm also a bit fed up paying several quid for a teensy carton of fresh stuff. frozen sounds like a good option. how long do they take to defrost and do you just put them in the fridge to defrost or what? ta [total kitchen numpty emoticon]

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 16/01/2008 23:00

wendy YOU know!!!!!

WendyWeber · 16/01/2008 23:01

Well I do now, but I only found out on a thread in the last couple of days, I had no idea before that

WendyWeber · 16/01/2008 23:02

Ideally you get some out ahead of time and let it sit, hcs - it doesn't take long.

Otherwise you could do it in the microwave with a few short bursts on defrost.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 16/01/2008 23:02

oh no ! hope i am not letting slip! tbh there are 3 people in the world who i changed my name to 'hide' from so i should not worry!

WendyWeber · 16/01/2008 23:02

Or put it in a sealed plastic bag and let it sit in a bowl of room temp water for a bit.

WendyWeber · 16/01/2008 23:04

Generally not, paula, but there's this one thread which is a bit of a giveaway (or was to me) but I won't say which one or that might be too...

(It's tricky going incognito, isn't it!)

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 16/01/2008 23:05

i am going o start buying this to add to the kids yoghurt but is it much cheaper

WendyWeber · 16/01/2008 23:07

Probably not cheaper but it's pure fruit, no sugar or preservatives or anything - def worth it.

unknownrebelbang · 16/01/2008 23:39

Semi-defrosted raspberries are lovely, as are grapes.

(and kiwi fruit and banana)

I sometimes take a tub full to work and eat them for breakfast - they've defrosted enough, but not too much.

Am at gooseberries though. Didn't see any gooseberries last year.

MargoWishesYouAHappyNooNooYear · 17/01/2008 18:56

yes PaulaYatesBiggesrFan - I have CAT
