Need a bit of help here ladies. DS is 19 months old and has a great appetite. He would happily eat pasta until it's coming out of his ears but basically anything else (with a few exceptions) he takes one look at and refuses. I really want to increase his veg intake but if he sees veg on his plate he refuses to try it, even if it's cut up and mixed in. What I want to know is, is he too young at this age to dislike something so much he just wont eat it, or do I just persevere and hope he gets used to it?

I think you should just carry on putting it on his plate, and don't offer alternatives. He is just about old enough to appreciate that he can't decide what is for dinner all the time.
Aalso don't react at all (I know it is easier said than done!) when he doesn't eat the veg. Just calmly clear it away.

You could also try loads of different veg with different dips like hummus (which of course has chickpeas so is a veg in itself) and also try cooking them very lightly incase it's the cooked veg taste he doesn't like.

Colourful veg like pepper sticks at lunch look nice so he may like them?

Thanks shrooms. I have tried him with pepper but he just spat it out. He does eat loads of fruit so at least that's something

Yes at least he like fruit! Carrots are quite sweet if he is a sweet tooth and that's the problem. Mind you so are peppers...

You could always try blitzing up some cucumber (and greens if he doesn't see the colour of the drink!) with fruit in a blender for a smoothie.

I used to hide stuff in bolognaise sauce? I mean, totally hidden not cut up. Increase the amount gradually so they gradually get used to the taste. I was very rubbish toddler cook and that was my only trick really. Except putting a bit of everything on the plate of every child even if they refused it every time. Like shrooms said, the non-reaction thing, but just every time. Eventually they did get going on it. I think it's definitely worth persevering. Also just remembered I did have one more trick which worked sometimes, which was getting them to help (when older) with preparing, pouring peas in the water and so on. One thing which I found did not help at all was the old "smiley face" thing. But some people swear by it.
