My 13 year old son is 5ft 9 is very active and does weights. He’s doing his best to eat me out of house and home. He said there’s not enough filling food in his lunch box. He likes fruit but doesn’t want to take more fruit to school.
currently has 2x ham or ham and cheese rolls. Crisps. Apple. cereal bar or penguin. Sometimes a few small sausage rolls. Or a baby bel.
any new ideas would be appreciated.

One of my dc only takes pasta in a flask. She has never liked sandwiches.

Sounds like he needs more protein.

Baked beans
Couscous
Boiled eggs
Massive chicken salad
Tin of tuna
Pakora

He definitely needs more protein;
fridge raiders, satay chicken, cocktail sausages, cheese (strings, cubes of it, on crackers, those individual portions, babybels?) yoghurts

Cold sausages, chicken drumsticks, yoghurt, hummus, - more protein and fat should fill him up better.

@Hairbear2 I just came across this article about summer camp lunches for kids and thought about your thread I read earlier in the day. www.cubbyathome.com/10-ideas-for-your-kids-summer-camp-lunch-box-80016072

Ideas from the article:

  • Quesadillas - you can eat them cold too

  • Pesto Chicken Salad - eat it as is or put it in some bread or a wrap

  • Pasta salad - load them up with more protein and veg than actual pasta

  • Ham and Cheddar Lunch Box Muffins

  • Vietnamese noodle salads - opportunity for a lot of veg and chicken protein

  • Shrimp and couscous salad

  • Bean salads - again, add lots of veg and protein

Your son may also just want a variety of flavours too. A lot of the recipes included there can also be eaten for dinner then packed as lunch leftovers for your son.

Agree on the protein. Hard boiled eggs are a cheap classic. Natural yoghurt - get a big tub and decant into a little pot, have some separate fruit or something to add in if wants it sweeter. Cottage cheese - not just for 80s dieters! Seeds and nuts (if it's not a nut-free school). Humus.

Great ideas, thanks, yes I always forget eggs, he loves them. Pasta too.

Thanks for the link, yes I’m so bored of doing ham rolls! Which he’s insisted on.

More protein is good idea, chicken drumsticks can be very economical. Also if he likes eggs an oven baked frittata is simple and quick to prepare ahead. You can make a big one and cut slices or use a muffin tin to take mini individual ones.
