Can't get cider easily here and if I do manage to get some DH drinks it (takes him back to his Somerset youth!).

So can I use apple juice instead?

I would have thought so.

Only thing to watch is that apple juice is a lot sweeter than cider. I'd be inclined to mix it with something - water maybe? Orange juice? Lemon juice? Difficult to know what's appropriate without know which recipe you're thinking about.

princes apple juice works well in cooking, I use it for toad in the hole. Ive found that other apple juices don't work as well, they go either too sweet or bitter in the recipe, especially if you need a lot. Even home pressed apples didn;t work very well.

Well I used it but not as much as was called for in recipe - seemed to be OK.
