Food left out - am I being paranoid?

I cooked some dhal earlier (so just lentils, tomatoes, onion, spices). I turned the hob off at 2pm, got busy with baby and only just put it in the fridge, 2.5 hours later. I've only just realised how hot it is outside and that it probably shouldn't have sat out so long, everywhere online says 2 hours max.

Would you eat it? DH and I definitely will, but I made it for my 7 month old and wondering if I should make her something else now just in case it's not safe.

It's 24 degrees in the kitchen

It's safe.

Amicompletelyinsane · 14/06/2022 16:25

It would have had to sit out to cool enough to go in the fridge anyway. It'll be fine

Aquamarine1029 · 14/06/2022 16:28

It's perfectly fine.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/06/2022 16:33

Did it have a lid on? If so, given it's veggie and was presumably boiling hot until you turned the heat off, it should be fine.

Clymene · 14/06/2022 16:34

It's fine. It's dhal.

Mummumtum · 14/06/2022 16:37

Absolutely fine

All of those ingredients can be left out of the fridge without issue. None of them are refridgerated at the shop. Doesn't mean you should leave them out for days once chopped up and cooked, but 2.5 hours is no problem at all.

Totally fine

Thank you! I'm now just worried they are undercooked and I only noticed after I fed baby argh. The recipe said to simmer for 20 minutes so I did. Most of the lentils have turned to mush but there is the odd on with a bit of bite. I saw on the packet I was meant to boil for 10 mins, then simmer for 15.

And I have just remembered why I never cook lentils even though I really want to have them in my diet...

You are totally overthinking this. There is nothing wrong with lentils that aren't total mush.

Your baby is fine.
