What's the absolute longest you'd keep veg soup?

I made it 7 days ago. It was/is good but there was more of it than I realised.

I realise it's way past when it "should" be used, but it has no meat or dairy in it. It still looks and smells good. What's the worst that could happen?

If its been sat in your fridge since then I think its on the cusp of not being great. But trust your nose and reheat VERY fully and it probably wont kill you.

carefullycourageous · 09/05/2022 21:36

I was going to say four days. Seven is too long for me.

But I agree the odds on you being ill if thoroughly reheated are low. I would not do it myself.

Wetblanket78 · 09/05/2022 21:37

Usually 4 or 5 days but if it looks okay after a week I would eat it.

Crazykefir · 09/05/2022 21:40

I'd eat it. If I tastes weird then chuck it.

loveyouradvice · 31/05/2022 22:22

Taste it ... I have had veggie soup "go off" after four days - clearly tasted not nice, and one went a bit fizzy! Others have been fine for six days....

As you say, not dangerous and like yogourt and milk, it will tell you if it isn't right!!

I actually googled this very question as we still had some in the fridge after 5 days. ‘It’ said 2 or 3 days, so I’d say maybe 4.

Eeebleeb · 31/05/2022 22:32

3 days in fridge.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 01/06/2022 07:50

I’m an absolute minger with stuff like this and I wouldn’t eat something a week old that had been in the fridge…

Hoolahulahoop · 01/06/2022 07:51

I find it tastes sour after two days

Makinglists · 01/06/2022 07:53

I would give it a go, but after today I think it's had its chance.

muddyford · 01/06/2022 07:55

Presumably you are going to eat it hot, so as long as it doesn't smell off. I have kept leek and potato soup made with chicken stock (from carcase not cube) for a fortnight in the fridge and it was fine. I can't afford to throw away food.

Benjispruce4 · 01/06/2022 09:46

If it smells and tastes ok I’d eat it.

I think vegetable soups taste better after a few days - also vege currys.
I would eat it at 7 days, but not leave longer.
Or freeze it today.

DolphinaPD · 01/06/2022 09:57

I've eaten soup nearly 2 weeks old. It smelt and looked fine. Tasted fine, and I wasn't ill 🤷‍♀️

TitInATrance · 01/06/2022 09:58

I think a week is too long, depends a bit if you’ve been boiling it up every day or just taking some out to heat. Once bubbles start to form, it’s off.

I usually go four to five days then freeze the rest.

IHateWasps · 01/06/2022 09:59

The soup is now almost a month old so hopefully the OP has eaten or binned it by now.
