Come on sigh up and save the grey squirrel.

Red squirrel is far tastier and makes a great casserole bulked out with lentils and a few herbs.

Free range and tender meat,ideal for a squirrel pie.

The fur can be used as well to make a pair of ear muffs.

I find cat a bit tough but the fur makes a nice pencil case for DD.

There is MUCH more meat on a grey squirrel than a red one. And they have quite a lot of bones so red ones are much fiddlier to fillet than grey ones.

Anyway red ones are endangered as grey ones are far more sucessful at breeding so we should actually be eating more grey squirrels

No but I would be happy to and I have looked at recipes. I am a bit scared of the millions of grey's that roam our park aggressively looking to be fed.

Arghhh yes,but if butchers ever started to sell squirrel meat then the grey ones being more available would be cheaper and the rarer red squirrel would be more expensive and therefore only affordable to certain people.

But how could you eat a squirrel?

I would imagine they have a very rich taste,although I remember a cookery programme stating that there meat tastes nutty,of course.

No they(red) would have to be farmed because they are endangered whereas grey are plentiful. There probably would be a healthy black market in illegal red squirrel though

Love the bit about the amount depends on how many you can eat,surly how many you can catch

Love that site,do they do a cookery book?

My kinda reading,I love reading all sorts of cookery books even if I will never make the stuff myself.
Just interested in the flavours they put together and the history of food etc.

My ideal night-a mug of hot chocolate,classic FM and a pile of cookery books snuggled up in bed.

I used to collect cookery books,but had so many was running out of space to put them .
Love scouring the second hand book shops for old cookery books or the history of food books.
Love reading Elizabeth David's cookery books as she gives a commentry on the recipes.
Used to like watching the two fat ladies cook as no matter what they were cooking they always made it sound so good you wanted to eat it.

I like Nigella for that reason also.

I buy the BBC good food mag and have done for the last 15 years .

Will have to look more into american cookery.
I have one american book "the joy of eating"
which I bought second hand in Canberra(sp)near the Monterreay Coast whilst on honeymoon.
