Im a reasonable cook, sweet and savoury, but i can't make flapjack! It either ends up too gooey, too cakey, or, like tonight, sticks to the tin and can't be budged! I'm going to have to throw my tin away as i can't remove the flapjack!!

I agree with dividedself - I take it out of the oven when it is still really quite soft in the middle. If it is too cooked, then it will be rock hard once it's cooled.

I've been extremely busy so haven't made any yet . Tonight and this weekend i'm trying all recipes posted! Watch this space

I've found - lower oven temperature gives chewy, softer flapjacks. Higher temperature causes the sugar to caramelise more giving crisper but harder (sometimes jaw-breakingly so) flapjacks. Grease the tray well with butter if not using a silicone tray. You can make nice individual flapjacks in silicone muffin trays if you like the crispy edges.

Oh, and cheaper, more powdery oats bind together better than the higher quality versions. If using really good oats, you may need to pre-grind a few or stick in a handful or two of Ready-brek!

Ground ginger makes them v. yummy.

ooh and the things you could do with half a tin of condensed milk and a spoon and Johnny Depp

what size tin of condensed milk? do htey still come in different sizes?

i have a recipe that works a treat in the microwave so is much quicker, but i think there are enough here already

Don't have any tips about flapjacks specifically, but re the sticking to the tin - I bought some 'flexible' bakeware from John Lewis recently and it's fab.

Hello there - I see this list is old but a google search bought me to soupdragon's recipe with condensed milk then I read the thread and would be most happy if you typed out your microwaveable one missingtheaction. I have one of those all in one oven/grill jobbies and I always fail to think ahead something that'd allow me to heat up the grill whilst flapjacking would be grand.
