Eating too much?

My dd (4.5 months) has just started taking solids. She has on average half a jar of puree in the morning, and then the other half of the jar late afternoon. On top of this she is having 4 8oz bottles during the day and anything up to 3 in the evening. Her milk is currently half strength as directed by gp as getting over a tummy bug, but surely this is a massive amount for a baby so young? I try giving juice instead of milk, but she drinks the juice and still wants the milk!!! HELP?! Will she get fat? She is average weight for her age, if a little on the short side!

my inclination would be not to worry too much about this - you'll be rejigging her eating/drinking patterns soon enough when you start introducing more meals per day. when DS was about this age he would have between 5 and 8 8 oz bottles per day; he's now 8 months and has 3 solid meals and 3 8oz bottles per day.

sounds normal to me but tbh I can't really remember. I didn't do jars at this age, but dd used to manage a couple of large ice cube sized lumps of puree twice a day i think. Sorry I can;t remember re the milk, she used to have whatever it said on the tin!

Thanks for the reassurance... I just cant believe how much can get into her little tummy!

pebbles I do remember reading somewhere that if humans continued to eat as much and grow as fast as they did in the first year of life, they would end up the size of an elephant! You will look back on this when you are trying to coax one mouthful of peas down your toddler and laugh wryly

Countess - so you are saying I should just be thankful and stop being a worry mummy!!! Cheers for the help!

Felt exactly the same as you pebbles. My babe is now 6 months and was very poorly with colitis. Couldn't eat a thing had to have special milk, now ironically when I should think about cutting down the milk he is wolfing it down and having three meals a day all meals being followed off by puds too! Believe me it's better to worry that thay are eating too much that to cry everytime they refuse and bottle. Eww horrible memories! Sounds like your baby's just enjoying what you are giving her
