Coffee for a coffee virgin!

Have recently started following a Keto diet - lost 3 stone so far - it's going well. It's changed my tastebuds considerably though - I absolutely love bitter 90% chocolate now and find milk chocolate gives me a headache - I don't miss sugar or carbs at all. I always found coffee too bitter so have never drunk it but I am thinking that might have changed now. I keep looking at coffee in the supermarket but don't know where to start - there's so much choice. Can anyone recommend an instant coffee for a coffee virgin?!

Don’t drink instant coffee- it’s not coffee

A nice comforting caffeinated drink- but a completely different one

I recommend getting the sainsburys own coffee bags. They make a lovely cup if you don’t have a French press or coffee machine.

I know you are Keto but I try and eat a low carb diet and a splash of milk never knocked me out of Ketosis a couple of times a day. This will be smoother drinking if aren’t used to having it black.

Amazon and TK Maxx also sell nice sugar free syrups in caramel and vanilla flavours if you do find it a bit bitter still.

The coffee bags are just like tea bags by the way!

James Hoffmann (hosts a YouTube coffee channel) rated Little's Colombian instant coffee as the best supermarket instant coffee, but he also liked the Percol Columbian.

If bitterness can be a problem for you though, I wouldn't recommend instant at all, as most will be very unpleasantly bitter. A light or medium roast coffee may appeal more as they tend to have more complex flavours which are roasted out in darker roasts. General advice is to look for coffee with a roasted on date rather than a use by date as these will be fresher and tastier. A V60 or French press are simple enough to use and cheap.
