Have some leftover roast pork - what can I do with it? Curry/Stew-ish.

It's a bit dry and a bit chewy but there is enough for dinner tonight. Fancy something really tasty that I can do with rice or pasta or mash.

Have onions, leeks, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, lentils, tinned beans and most spices.

Any ideas?

Impatient bump!

Am thinking something with tinned beans and tinned tomatoes?

Any point in bumping this? No.

Won't bother then.

have you any gravy left over?

Coby · 07/01/2008 16:47

I'd just chuck it all in a casserole plus whatever veggies you fancy and a thickly diced apple or two if you have any and some stock, v, tasty served with rice. If you have any cider lurking that is really yummy instead of some (or most!) of the stock.

however....I prefer stir fried left over roast pork with any spare veggies and noodles - yum yum....v. tasty - esp the crispy ends of the joint.

No gravy left.

Hmm - casserole with apple may be good. No cider though.

i would cut it into tiny pieces and add it to shredded veggies to make a stir fry.

Buda · 07/01/2008 16:56

Have just chopped it up into bite sized pieces.

Am no good at what I call instinctive cooking - need to follow instructions! Any suggestions for flavours for stirfry? I used to do them a lot but they were always bland. Have soy sauce. Have fish sauce too I think.

Fry some onions. Add a bit of fresh ginger, garlic and chilli (if you have).
Add the veggies,add the meat.

Mix a teaspoon of cornflour with a small cup of water and soy mixed. Add a slug of sherry,or failing this, a tablespoon of sugar or a tablespoon of tomato sauce. Add to your fried veggies until it bubbles and thicken. Serve.

oh geeesh, I don't know as I'm not delia smith myself. What I do is give each (soy and fish) sauce a sniff and see which one I am most in the mood for that night

Buda · 07/01/2008 17:03

Mmm - sounds yummy! And we have a packet of noodles that are close to their sell by date and need using so taht should make DH happy (he hates waste!).

Ah - no ginger. Will improvise!

moondog · 07/01/2008 17:07

Although, as I tell ya frequently Buda,if I lived where you were living, would be out having fab Hungarian goulashes and soups every night.

Buda · 07/01/2008 17:12

You'd get fed up with it moondog - honestly you would! And out every night with DS doesn't really work and it's snowing so fancy staying home! Comfort food order of the day!

Actually I could do a sort of goulash with it I suppose!

Hmm,yes probably.
I loved Turkish food when i lived there but God,sometimes i would have murdered for a cheese and pickle sandwich.

Sister has said the same thing after returning from a month in Korea (bil Korean).

Buda · 07/01/2008 17:44

Now I LOVE Turkish food! Yum. Been to Turkey twice and loved the food.

I remember once when we lived in Thailand being away with friend in Northern Thailand and having Thai food every meal and one night in a restaurant I spotted that they did tomato soup and steak and chips and NOTHING could disuade me from having it! Everyone else had Thai!

Nasi Goreng?

Buda · 08/01/2008 07:00

Ooh - love Nasi Goreng - it used to be my fave hangover food when we lived in Vietnam - lived in an apartment building that had a cafe downstairs and would have room service! A large plate of Nasi Goreng and a 7-up sorted me out!!!

Well in the end I followed nobody's suggested and just made up a casserole type thing. Sort of Hungarian as I used paprika!! And sour cream. Twas OK.
