Squashes without sugar or sweeteners - does such a thing exist?

Has anybody ever found a squash or cordial (not a fruit juice) which is both sugar-free and artificial sweetener-free? They all seem to contain one or the other. Fruit is quite sweet anyway so I'm sure that there must be one somewhere but I'm darned if I can find one...!

Wouldn't that just be fruit juice and water? What else could you add to it if not sugar/sweeteners and artificial colours etc?

Misdee · 06/01/2008 12:06

rocks organic squash has not got any artificial sweetners but i'm sure it has sugar in it.

MeMySonAndI · 06/01/2008 12:10

As far as I'm aware squash is a mixture of huge amounts of sugars and artificial things, with a tiny bit of fruit juice (if any, as even the flavour can come from flavouring agents!)

So, I'm afraid that the best I can suggest is organish squash (don't remember the name but it is sold in Sainsbury's). Now about the sugar... is either sugar or aspartame, so take your pick!

What's wrong with fruit juice, or water?

You can get concentrated apple juice that you water down in Holland&Barret, also apple and blackcurrant or apple and pear. I use it for DD and she loves it.

fireflytoo · 06/01/2008 12:22

Why not just use the real thing?

deenymcqueenygoreandguts · 06/01/2008 12:31

i just get the fresh stuff not made from concentrate and water that down.
kids like it and we drink it.

Hmmm, I guess squash is just fruit juice and water with other gunk - I hadn't really thought of that MeMySonandI, I don't like plain water and don't want to drink fruit juice because there's too much sugar in it, albeit natural sugar. I kid myself that's because I have to watch my sugar intake as I was diabetic during my pregnancies (when fruit juice is limited to a tiny amount per day) - but it's mainly because I'm trying to diet and don't want to waste calories on drink unless it's Chardonnay This is only for me, btw - DD drinks only water or milk. I know I should set a good example for her by drinking plain water but it really makes me heave
Watered down juice is a good idea, deeny, I will try that.

TBH I hate water too, but diluted fruit juice does it for me.

BTW Fruit sugar is far healthier than sugar sugar.

Tinkjon · 06/01/2008 16:39

Agree that fructose is much healthier, but you still have to limit it if you're diabetic or have to watch your sugars for some other reason. Of course the 2 bars of Dairy Milk I ate today don't count

No, they don't, not at all Better not advice in the topic after eating 2 huge slices of chocolate cake.

Squashes are a bit of my pet hate, I don't really understand them. We are also very much into healthy eating originating from DS's multiple allergies. Being forced to read every single label, I find squashes' existance something quite difficult to to justify (but then I was raised on Kool Aid so I better shut my mouth!)
