hunkermunker, the quality of turkey varies enormously doesn't it? For the last couple of years, I've bought an organic one from a butcher I discovered. Sooo delicious, moist, succulent..yum. I tend to overcook everything and these turkeys seem to withstand my heavy handed cooking technique and not dry out.

We have our turkey dinner on Thanksgiving Day. For the past few years we (my husband's family) have all stayed in a big rented house on the beach in North Carolina for the week of Thanksgiving and eaten and drank loads. Bliss!

This year, however, we couldn't get a house in time and instead we're going on a cruise in the western Caribbean. We leave tomorrow.

Anyway, for our turkey dinner we have:

Roast turkey with gravy;
Usually 2 different types of stuffing, a more traditional one and then something a little different like cornbread and sausage stuffing;
Some kind of sweet potato dish;
Some kind of potato dish, like potatoes au gratin;
Several different veggies;
Cranberry relish;
Bread rolls;
Pies for dessert - pumpkin, apple, pecan...

K&theG - sound like a WONDERFUL trip - have a lovely time .

Buy the BBC Good Food magazine as it has recipes for everything in it - veggies turkey stuffing so you can do something different. It's really useful.

K&tG, have a great time!

So.. what wines do you guys serve? Am looking for ideas, but we've usually gone with :
American sparkling,
Alsacian Riesling (people drink the most of this)
and I've never gotten the red right. Was going to try LJ Beauj Villages?

JJ, Beaujolais (and even Beaujolais Nouveau at this time of year) is perfect for turkey!
