Who else is always cutting out recipes from magazines and newspapers?

How do you organise them?

I have loads I want to keep but they're currently all sitting in a pile in the kitchen and I'm sick of the sight of them.

I have 2 of those slip in recipe file things but they are getting very messy so I am trying (and failing) to handwrite the recipes that I test and like into a notebook. There are a few hiding in kitchen cupboards and my diary too.

MaureenMLove · 04/01/2008 17:05

Oh me! I print them off the internet too! I bought a ring binder, plastic wallets and a set of dividers to put them in. I was even anal enough to sort them into starter, main and dessert!

Actually, I also have 2 scrap books full of the damn things too. All neatly sorted again and (this is the sadest of all) I type an index!

PrufrockingAroundTheXmasTree · 04/01/2008 17:09

I am getting even more anal - I have long had them in folders for savoury, sweet and soups (I seem to rip out a lot of soups) but have now got sick of the paper, so as I use paper recipe, i either throw it away if I don't like it, or type it into my laptop if I do.

i subscribe to good food magazine, so i just keep the magazines in magazine folders. those printed from the internet are kept in a binder with the cookery books.

holidaywonk · 04/01/2008 17:13

I just paste them into a big blank hardcover notebook, any old order. You remember where the good ones are once you've made them a few times.

ComeOVeneer · 04/01/2008 17:14

I have them in an A4 file, under various sub-headings - canapes/party food, starters, soups, chicken, meat, fish/seafood, veggie, side dishes, desserts, sushi and christmas.

Jennster · 04/01/2008 17:14

Yes I do and they're not. Most recipes though come from the newspaper, so cut and paste the recipe from the website and I tidy it up on a Word document. Then they are all just filed under recipes I'm afraid.

revgreen · 04/01/2008 17:19

I paste them into books. I have a book for things that are a bit of an effort divided into meat and fish. Another one for main courses that take less than 15 min, and veg/sides/salads in the back and another one with puddings and cakes with drinks in the back. I tend to pile them up for months before I get around to sticking them in.

Flier · 04/01/2008 17:20

I'm sure I could organise a ring binder for myself, that sprobably the way to go for me

Although the idea of having it on pc sounds good, it's just a wee bit too organised for me, although I wish I was that organised

thanks all.

I cut loads out of Observer mag and never make anything - keep them in a Roald Dahl recipe folder thing, just in case !

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 04/01/2008 17:25

I do it all the time. I have 2 A4 sized hardback books and glue the recipes in there.

Weegle · 04/01/2008 17:26

oh I'm so anal about this

I cut out the recipe - it goes in my "to try" file which is sorted in to categories like weekday meals, entertaining, puddings, baking etc.

If once we try it we like it, it gets stuck in my recipes book which is savouries at the front and sweet things at the back. Not sure what I will do when my book is full!

MaureenMLove · 04/01/2008 17:27

Blimey, I'm barely anal at all! I really should bin most of them tbh! They date back about 15 years and I never even look at the scrap book ones!

BrownSuga · 04/01/2008 17:50

i have a massive pile, but bought some of those plastic a4 sleeves and ringbinder to put them in about 3mths ago. Haven't got around to putting them in it yet.....

Ringbinder is good, as if you don't try a recipe for a few years, you can throw it out and replace it with something new, and just keep your favourites.

Flier · 04/01/2008 17:54

I actually bought an A4 laminator ages ago with the intention of laminating the best of the dc's artwork to keep and thouht I may do the same with fave recipes, that way they are wip clean.

Needless to say, I haven't even opened the box
