Cheesy themed restaurants

Wasn’t sure where to post this! I am looking for mega cheesy themed restaurants in London, to take the kids to. In the vein of The Rainforest Cafe (maybe less extortionate), where the emphasis is on fun. There don’t really seem to be any in London, from Googling. Does anyone have any tips? North or Central best for us. I am shocked there’s not some sort of Pirate restaurant where the staff have to wear eye patches… do I need to go to America?

The Cheese Barge in Paddington.

@urbanbuddha

The Cheese Barge in Paddington.
Looks amazing, definitely cheesy! Would like silly cheese hats on the staff and some animatronic mice or something though

More a wine bar with a cheese room, but Vivat Bacchus is good (although not really child friendly if that's what you're looking for).

You are right, there aren’t many and yes I reckon a good one would go down a storm for younger children. The only ones I can think of are Bubba Gump, Inamo and Hard Rock Cafe. There are some good restaurants for older kids but I presume you are thinking 5-12 range?

Justjoinedforthis · 04/03/2022 20:43

Ha thank you, I think I should have maybe said ‘Wacky’ instead of cheesy

There's nothing really in Britain like you describe. Disney is the nearest location of super tacky themed restaurants. Rainforest cafe is the outlier

Justjoinedforthis · 04/03/2022 20:51

Right then, you will see me on The Apprentice 2024 seeking investment in ‘Pieces of Ate’, a piratical eatery.

Honestly I’d go even though my kids are old- we need more fun in restaurants

Giraffe?

You have not said how old the children in question are but friends child (early teen) who is great at researching restaurants enjoys food trucks and buffets.

Dans Le Noir?

Tgi Fridays used to be good for low level cheese but I think they've dialled it down a bit these days. Definitely seems to be a gap in the market

There rev quite a few options for a children’s Tea

chesirecat99 · 05/03/2022 14:18

There isn't really anywhere else quite like the Rainforest Cafe.

Planet Hollywood, the Hard Rock Cafe, the Hard Rock Hotel, and Sticky Fingers all have memorabilia and a cheesey vibe.

All Star Lanes are fun for diner food and bowling (multiple venues).

Places like Bubba Gump and Poppies fish and chips have cheesey decor, Pizza Pilgrims have some quirky venues. Benihana is fun to watch the chefs cooking (Japanese). There are quite a few board game and retro video game cafes but your DC are probably a bit too young for that. Inamo has interactive tables, if they like Asian food. If they eat sushi, Yo Sushi with the conveyor belts is fun too.

I think AtleastitsnotMonday's suggestion of afternoon tea is a good idea - the sweetshop one at the Chesterton and the science one at the Ampersand are good. Although you could just go to the Deep Blue Cafe at the Science Museum.

Thanks for the suggestions will check them out

I opened the thread prepared to suggest (albeit not recommend) Berlosconi-themed Bunga Bunga but sadly I see it needs to be DC-friendly Grin

chesirecat99 · 05/03/2022 15:09

There is also Park Row, the Gotham City themed place, but it is more of an adult destination. It might be okay with kids at lunchtime, I suppose.

Not in London but just outside.
I went to a Smith and Western for the first time the other day and thought it was rather cheesy.
The servers were dressed as cowboys, there was a jail section where you could eat behind bars, covered wagons with dining tables inside, and the staff seemed to burst into yee-hars regularly. Also life size horse and cow models around, fake saloon bars like film sets.
''Twas all very weird and wacky. Food was ok though.

Blondie1984 · 06/03/2022 01:54

What about BeniHana?
