We have one that has never been used.

My feeling is that its just like sticking a pot on a hob. So nothing will get browned like using the oven, grill, griddle...

So please tell me what is your favourite most delicious thing to cook in them? Meat & Veggie ideas too please 🙏

Chana Daal and Lamb Curry

  1. Thinly slice two onions. In the pressure add oil, ( two tablespoons). Add turn on medium heat. Add the onions, and fry until translucent.
  1. Add boneless lamb chunks. Brown on medium heat for around 10 mins.
  1. Add, a tablespoon of curry powder, and teaspoon of paprika. Turn down heat and stir well. Add salt to taste.

4 You need fresh tomatoes, with the skin off. Use a food processor to blend, the consistency should be thick not watery.

  1. Add to the curry. Mix well, and allow to simmer for 10 mins
  1. Use a half a cup of chana dhal, rinse through and add to the curry. Mix through.
  1. Add, 600ml of boiled water to the curry and mix well.

Put on the lid and the valve. Turn up thr heat and wait for it to get to pressure and release. Once it has released, then turn down the heat very low.

Leave for 40-45 mins. Curry is ready when the meat is ready and the dhal is soft. The sauce should not be watery, if it is then leave for a bit longer. Taste for salt again and add more if needed.

Enjoy. !!

Gammon in the slow cooker is nice, we put a small gammon joint in a pan of water and bring it to boil (this takes the saltiness off), while that’s coming to boil, chop 6-8 tomatoes and put in slow cooker, add 2-3 sliced onions. Take the gammon out of the boiled water (literally just let it boil 5 mins) and put on top of the onions, add a bit of brown sugar and 30ml of water and slow cooker for 6-8 hours.

It’ll go all tender and is nice with chips or broccoli & mash.

@BritishDesiGirl OP was asking for s.c. recipes, not pressure cooker.

I always brown red meat before putting it in the s.c. Doesn't take long, & improves the appearance & taste.
No specific recipes for the s.c., I adapt normal ones.

We use ours for a whole chicken once a week - just put it in the slow cooker upside down with an onion and a bulb of garlic up it's bum. Rub liberally chicken salt or add some BBQ sauce and leave it for 6-8 hours. Great for sandwiches etc

So no liquid or oil? Does it brown?

I often brown the meat before I add it to the slow cooker with all the other ingredients.

I’m a vegetarian but I make beef short rib ragu and it is my family’s favourite meal. My aunt and uncle always request it when they visit from Australia. I must admit it does look delicious… 😋

@HoliHormonalTigerlilly- No liquid, nothing added. No, it doesn't brown but it is very tender and moist and falls apart like 'pulled chicken' so we use it for sandwiches, risotto etc. Sometimes I do this with loads of veg in the bottom, a bit of water and a stock cube added and then take the chicken out and shred it up before putting the meat back in and stirring. A thick soup/stew - very nice in the winter. I find much of what is cooked in the SC just tastes of 'slow cooker' and we aren't very keen so stick to big pieces of meat normally. A shoulder of pork is very good done this way too.

I’ve used mine for a whole chicken, gammon, lamb, brisket, chilli, curry, fajitas. There is loads u can do. I don’t add water if doing roast meat such as chicken or gammon etc

MissyB1 · 08/03/2022 17:26

I make casseroles, chillies, curries, soups. I usually brown the meat first in a frying pan. We couldn’t manage without our slow cooker on my work days. It’s also useful if you have people coming over for dinner.

My slow cookers are busy this afternoon. Beef casserole, sausages in bread crumbs(new try!) and my favourite, ham hock pieces with red peppers in condensed mushroom soup. I love my slow cookersGrin

@2catsandhappy how did the ham hock in soup go? If nice could you tell me how long you cooked it for please?

2catsandhappy · 26/03/2022 18:48

Delicious 😋 8/9 hours on low overnight. I am doing some more tonight.

Baked potatoes are great slow cooked.
Just stab them and rub them with oil and salt, then bung them in the slow cooker for 4-5 hours (no liquid).
I slow cook stewing steak or brisket, browning them in a pan first thing in the morning then cooking onions in the same pan. Transfer things to slow cooker when browned. Use same pan again to make a bit of gravy to add so all the flavour goes into the slow cooker. Leave that lot on low for the morning and add parboiled veg mid afternoon for a lovely casserole dinner.
Pulled pork is another slow cooker special. Pork fillet/shoulder, onion, chicken stock, ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, apple. Leave that all cooking for a few hours then take the meat out and shred it. Add the shredded meat back in, take the lid off and turn it to high for half an hour before serving.
