My DS was a fantastic eater up til about 18 months - really would eat anything, he then entered the toddler toast and banana awkward stage and has come out of it aged 3yrs2months eating the following..

Toast
Bread
Cereals
Crumpets
Jam
Honey
Peanut butter
Cheeses
Yoghurts
Pizza (any topping if finely chopped and hidden under cheese
Sausages
Roast Potatoes
Yorkshire Puddings
Burgers
Hot dogs
Noodles
Most fruits including dried
Milk
Juice

His teas are a real sticking point and I try to make them as healthy as possible (ie homemade pizzas veg toppings, homemade burgers, good quality sausages etc). But I am aware he is not eating things like veg and wet food apart from nooodles .

As a child I was given my tea and if it didn't get eaten I would wait til breakfast for more food.
I have always planned on this approach with ds but didn't feel he would understand it before, however I feel he is old wnough now and when he starts nursery in about a weeks time I want to start changing my approach to his tea times.

Me and DP eat a huge range of foods and hate having same stuff all the time and are keen for ds to eat what we are eating.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? I am nervous and don't want to make an issue of it but am sick of making him something different and don't want to continue with it.

Firstly his food likes are certainly better than most kids! All kids go through this funny stage - my ds aged 5 is still really peculiar about fruit!

Will he be eating lunch or tea in nursery? I found that when mine actually started he tried new foods because his friends were eating them!

I follow the rule of if you dont eat your tea then you get nothing until the next meal and my kids are aged 5, 8 and 11 and it works. I dont do different meals for different kids and they just accept that too.

Smuggling veg into pasta sauces or soup and get him to dunk bread is a great way of incorporating them into his diet. Mine love smoothies too

Thanks for replying.

I know his diet could be worse, he is a good little fella overall bless him!

He will only be at nursery 12.30-3pm - it is a school one.
I childmind so know what you mean about kids eating together - just doesn't seem to work with mine! I think tbh it is the fact I am always busy over tea time that he hasn't bothered with it as much.

Will defo be sticking to one tea for all when term starts up!
