Edible lavender

Where can I buy this from? Amazon have some but I'm skeptical about buying any food products from them. Would prefer to buy from reputable food/baking retailer/supplier.

Just to note, I know you can just pick some from the garden but I don't have a garden or any lavender sadly. Plus it's not in season.

I buy from Amazon. I used to get a large tub from Lakeland when I lived in the UK but that was a long time ago. Waitrose have piddly little pots that do a couple of cups of tea (or gin).

Ooh, what are you planning to make?

I picked a load of it last summer and made sleep masks. The rest is sitting (dried) in a jar.

I had a divine lavender mousse a few years ago. Was in extremely small portions. It was so fantastic I may have sniffles a few extra portions from others who didn’t want theirs. Bad move. Stomach was not at all happy.

I bought lavender in the herbs and spices section at a supermarket once (it was a known make, Barts or Shwartz) and I've seen it in the baking section, too. But it's not an everyday thing.

Try searching by make.

I once had lavender scones at a village fete, they were lovely, so following this with interest.

JustWonderingIfYou · 17/02/2022 16:25

Waitrose used to stock it. I used to make lavender cakes with lemon buttercream and vice versa. They were divine!

All lavender is edible. There are just some varieties which are more popular to use in cooking. I don't see why it would be a problem to buy it from Amazon tbh - I mean, unless they send you something that isn't lavender, what's going to be wrong with it?

Unless it has been grown for human consumption, it could have been treated with all sorts of pesticides and preservatives.

This reminds me that I dried some last year, to have with lamb. Thanks!

littlepieces · 17/02/2022 21:16

With lamb @KimchiWithMe - now that is interesting!

Thanks everyone. Barts have discontinued their lavender, they used to sell it in Waitrose. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and order some from Amazon. I've been fancying lemon drizzle cake but wanted to try something a bit different. Was going to give this a go at the weekend: www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/lemon_and_lavender_loaf_90853

I had it years ago at a cafe in Dubrovnik, still haven't got round to trying to recreate it.

Dilbertian · 17/02/2022 21:56

With lamb? Interesting. I can see it working, as lavender and rosemary have some similarities in their smells. Must try it.

Dilbertian · 17/02/2022 21:56

But carefully! It's really easy to overdo the lavender!

ArabeI · 17/02/2022 22:20

Oh no! I didn't know Bart's had discontinued it. I used to buy that from Ocado, though also managed to find some in a health food shop locally.

I use for lavender biscuits, but I don't make those very often
