Valentine's Menu

Is anyone cooking something special for Valentine's Day that they'd like to share?

We don't do anything for Valentine's Day generally but I would like to make a nice tea (even if it will be eaten alongside two screaming kids...). Just pondering what to make and thought it might be nice to share ideas for inspiration :)

Will, of course, post my menu when I've actually decided on it!

Every year I do:

Fondue
Duck Leg Confit or Steak with dauphinoise potatoes and grilled veg e.g asparagus or green beans, delicious sticky red wine sauce
Chocolate fondant

SpamIAm · 09/02/2022 10:38

That all sounds good, although I suspect we'd gorge ourselves on fondue and not be able to eat the mains...

Champagne risotto
Chocolate tart
I don’t think I’ll do a starter, but we might have some nice nibbles.

I'm tempted by the M&S or ASDA valentines meal offer 🤔

I'm not a great cook, and also have young kids who'll no doubt interrupt our meal! Would be nice to just chuck stuff in the oven.

Cheeseburger macaroni cheese and lots of red wine. It has my husband's two favourite foods in it: cheese and mince.

DH is cooking. Skate wings with capers and brown butter.

We always have escargots 🐌 in garlic butter on valentines and a framboise religieuse from the patisserie 😋 and champagne 🍾

I bought 2 frozen lobsters in Dec. in case BoJo fucked up our Xmas holiday plans again.
V.D. is a good time to use them.

Some garlic prawn recipe I found in Olive magazine followed by steak and chips with a mushroom and peppercorn sauce. We are having ours tomorrow as DS is out with some friends for tea. We've got a bottle of champagne leftover from Christmas although we may have that tonight as DS will need picking up tomorrow and one of us will need to drive. We don't really do Valentine's as such, it just happens that we are alone for dinner tomorrow.

Right I think I've finally settled on the following
Starter - Italian type nibbles (mini bruschetta, mozzarella and sundried tomatoes, melon and ham on sticks). And some mini croque monsieur that I have left in the freezer 😂
Main - chicken in a mushroom and red wine sauce with dauphinois potatoes
Dessert - brownies and strawberrries

DH did a 'special' bbq. We're in Australia, was 30-odd degrees in the evening & I didn't want to heat up the kitchen!

Steak, flat bread, haloumi 'chips', asparagus & thick string beans on the bbq. I did tomato/avocado salad and made vodka cocktails.

Easy but it actually did feel special Grin

I did -

Steamed rice
Tandoori chicken
Raita
And a totally weird Heart shaped chocolate brownie that tasted delicious

I did steaks with chunky chips, home made onion rings, garlic butter mushrooms, roast vine tomatoes and a peppercorn sauce.
Tarte au citron with chantilly cream. Cheese board.

We had 2 of the DC here so the four of us ate off our laps and watched 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'. It was a lovely relaxed evening .
