I like minute steak sandwiches, but flash frying makes the kitchen smell and splatters the cooker.

Is there a better way? I'm thinking of something like a panino press or a George Foreman "grill"

It needs to get really hot to scorch the outside while not overdoing the inside.

(Yes, I know it wasn't the ukulele player)

Ha ha was about to say…!

I’d also like to know the answer so following for any ideas. In the summer I usually try and BBQ steaks to save making the kitchen smell and get covered in spatters of grease. But it’s a faff and takes a while to heat up so is only really useful if cooking for 3-4 people not just for a single sandwich. I guess you could maybe BBQ a few at the weekend and then slice them up, and you can either quickly reheat them (could wrap in foil and oven but then you’d lose the rareness) or just have them cold, sliced with salt and horseradish 😋

I just coat mine in a little oil and whack in my air fryer on high for a few minutes each side. Although I cook most things in my air fryer these days. I used to use the George foreman but it was a pain to clean and the smell was worse than in a pan.

We have a very small George Forman grill and find it works really well for steaks (lamb and pork leg steaks as well as beef) and burgers. Also makes excellent toasted sandwiches. It's easy to clean although it's true that the smell of meat can linger. Definitely less messy than frying meat on the hob.

Agreed.

I love our steaks done on the George Foreman grill.
Amazing every time.
We had steak and chips for tea last night 😋
Toasted sandwiches also good.
