Tom Kerridge or Pinch of Nom

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 31/01/2022 20:37

I'm looking for a lower calorie cookbook and both Tom Kerridge and Pinch of Nom seem to fit the bill, but I'm not sure which would be best.

I want something that is low cal, and has plenty of veg recipes, or recipes that have a lot of veg in them. We're trying to eat more veg, and eat healthier.

I'd appreciate any views, and any recommendations for any other books that might be good.

TIA

The Hairy Dieters books are great

I know nothing about Pinch of Nom except that the name is awful, but I did see some of Tom Kerridge's programmes about healthy eating and weight loss and thought the recipes looked good. Can't remember if they were particularly high in veg but from memory his approach is a fairly no nonsense 'let's cut the calories so watch your portion size and keep the high calorie bits like fat and sugar to a minimum', so it seems likely.

I like the Hairy Bikers book, I’m not overweight and use their recipes as they taste good.

TK actually successfully lost weight, unlike the PON writers. I'd take that as an indicator.

I haven't tried it, but there is a new book called slimming eats, which is meant to be really good

Wilma55 · 01/02/2022 09:34

Plenty of Nom ones online to try. I didn't think TKs were that low calorie? I also recommend Hairy Dieters.

Ton Kerridge lost vast amounts of weight. I'd go with him. His recipes are so tasty.

You should get "The Green Roasting Tin: Vegan and Vegetarian One Dish Dinners" by Rukmini Iyer.

I got Slimming Eats book last week and there are lots of lovely recipes.

Hairy dieters is brilliant, also two chubby cubs.

I have one of the TK books and really like them, the pork samosa pie is a particular favourite. They're big hearty portions and less faffy than POM. Also easy to adapt his techniques for other stuff eg poaching chicken breasts (I did this instead of getting a crown) etc

I have a TK book and a PON book and I use neither. The Hairy Dieter books however are used constantly. They are great especially the first one.

Georgyporky · 01/02/2022 10:37

I've got TK & like it.

I've also got 4 of The Hairy Dieters & like them just as much. I haven't got the veggie one that might suit you
I borrowed PON from the library, but didn't think it was worth buying.

Thank you all so much for your advice - I am going with Tom Kerridge and the Hairy Bikers.

I tried a couple of PON recipes and one was ok but the other pretty grim. They use a lot of low fat cream cheese which is gross when mixed with stock and they do this a lot. Honestly I'd rather eat smaller portions of 'normal' food. The Hairy Bikers are much better.
