i need to take a pud over to friends for New Year's Eve Dinner for 8, any ideas for something really good and not needing hours spent in the kitchen, please?

Brownies with a hot chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.

I'm doing the same and will be doing sticky toffee pudding and banoffee pie. Neither are too complex and always impress!

Trifle is dead easy and always goes down well.

HairyIrene · 29/12/2007 22:07

trifle

fortyplus · 29/12/2007 22:08

I found a recipe for a Greek style trifle on the M&S website that was just the BEST! Fresh apricots, fresh figs and other stuff I can't remember. I'll see if I can find it for you.

yogabird · 29/12/2007 22:13

Looked on her website and the clementine cake sounds fab. Just 2 questions though, is there really no flour involved?
how big a cake tine did you use,Waswondering?

Trifle is a good one and the kids could help, fresh figs a bit pricey jsut now though aren't they, could modify though...what with?

I've been meaning to try some sort of gingerbread trifle. Have visions of layers of gingerbread, port soaked pears, then the usual custard and cream and topped with stem ginger. Sounds tempting - or just plain daft?!

yogabird · 29/12/2007 22:18

sounds bloody lovely, i'd order it off a menu - yum!

Ok - I will try it out then and let you know how it goes; doubt it'll be before New Year's eve though. It's dp's 40th coming up, so I might do it for that, alongside a more conventional trifle for the older, unadventurous ones!

The chestnut chocolate fridge cake from that Hugh bloke with the infeasibly long name:

lifeandhealth.guardian.co.uk/foodanddrink/hughfearnleywhittingstall/story/0,,1950615,00.html

I would never buy a chocolate pud
like that again since it's so so so easy to make!

yogabird · 30/12/2007 19:33

waswondering...made it, 21cm flexible cake tin but burnt it arghhh! It was a borrowed oven cos the thermostat has gone on ours and it appears to be running rather hotter than the dial says on this one too! Not too badly burnt though i think and have jujst scraped off the blackest bits. Undecided as to whether to abort and restart with alternative or to whip up some cream, slather it all over it and hope that this covers up the evidence of hacking off the charcoal. It does look delicious but i daren't taste too much if i'm going to take it. can't decide...

Well I have astounded myself and made some chocolate mousse !!!!!! And its turned out like mousse and not scrambled egg!

fortyplus · 31/12/2007 12:47

Well done you! I eventually found that greek Trifle recipe - it's on the Waitrose website, not the M&S one. I can highly recommend it! YUM!

janeite · 01/01/2008 12:55
