Air fryer, yay or nay?

Trying to decide whether it's worth buying one and if so are cheaper ones OK?
Mainly for cooking the kind of snacks teenage boys like (safely) without heating the whole oven up eg. chips, fish fingers etc.
Do you like yours?
@CraftyGin 5 mins in the microwave whilst the air fryer is on preheat at 205c. Then I put it on a foil tray and spray the potato with oil and put it in the air fryer on root veg for 15 mins. Check after this time with a knife because potatoes come in different sizes.
My DSis raves about hers but, reading all the answers all I’m thinking is “but everything is oiled”.

I do jackets for 5 mins in the microwave then finish off in the oven and there is no need for any oil.

Don’t you get sick of the taste of oil on everything? I eat oven chips about once a month & can’t think of anything else I use oil on tbh (veggie). I’m sure teen would love it though.

Got one yesterday...have cooked some chips and croissants in it so far, not used any oil yet
I'm liking it and think It will be used

@NarcissistsEyebrows

I love my Ninja with a air fry function and if I didn't think it would cause friction with DP I'd be tempted to buy another- the number of times I've wanted two at once!

The good thing about the Ninja is that as well as airfrying snacks etc you can use it as a saucepan, pressure cooker, and hob.

I've currently got some sourdough dough on a last prove in there (dehydrate mode) to puff up a bit extra before I turn the mode to Bake and cook it without having to move anything and risk depuffing my dough

Do you have the recipe on how to do this in the ninja please

I love my Ninja Foodi. I have the smart lid 11 in 1 model so it’s just one lid instead of two that some have, plus the slider function selection is brilliant. It’s so easy to use.

Plus you can buy some with more or less functions depending on what you want to use it for, obviously the more functions the more expensive.

I am currently using mine on the yoghurt function, currently fermenting.
First time I’ve ever made yoghurt and I so want to make bread, so it makes you think about making things you don’t normally make. Iyswim.

I fancy one but I have not idea what make or model might be best.

I know, there are so many different ones to choose from.

There are only two of us, so we got the 6litre model, the 7.5 litre one would have been too big.

We originally had the pressure king pro which started to lose its display so we needed to replace it, and this one does the trick, with a few more functions. That didn’t have the air fryer though.

I think air fryers are brilliant if you have a holiday cottage or a caravan with an electric feed or are surviving in a house with an unrenovated kitchen because you can chuck things in from the freezer like breaded fish and chips and it all cooks quickly, without fuss, in a hygienic, sealed environment. Great for quick kids' meals and teens when not cooking from scratch. If it were just me and DH at home I don't think I would use it very much though.

Can anyone explain to me please what is the main difference between an air fryer and a Ninja or is Ninja the brand?

Ninja is the brand.

Well, that’s it, it’s useful for so many different scenarios.

Thank you ChocolateChocolateMint someone bought us an air fryer as a Christmas present (a non-Ninja brand) so I wasn't sure! I must admit it has been great for teens during lockdown. Very quick & easy for them and less mess and doesn't interfere with main food prep ifyswim.

You’re welcome @Tunabaguette, Sounds like the right thing for you and your teens, which is what it is all about.

When our pressure king pro developed problems, we were in two minds to keep our slow cooker (separate from the PKP) , and buy an air fryer. We looked at the different makes too, not just Ninja.

The Ninja foodi multicooker became our choice for our needs, plus we got money off from a coupon for Currys, got £50 off 😁.

We don't tend to have freezer food, we have an old Philips Air Fryer, Had it since before DS1 was born and hes coming up 6.

Tonight it is Fajhitas, all airfryered (chicken breast, peppers, onions and spins) no oil.
Tomorrow - Sausage, Mash and green veg - will air fry the sausages while boiling the potatoes and veg
Wednesday - Nandos style pittas with chips and salad. The butterfly chicken breast will be airfryed, also the halloumi and the chips.
Thursday - Baked Salmon with crushed new potatoes - wrap the salmon in foil and cook in the airfryer
Takeout Friday
