Food ideas whilst on a very tight budget

Hi, so im looking for some help please! We have our baby girl arriving within the next 2 weeks and I need to prepare some meals to store in the freezer to save time and money whilst getting used to life with a newborn.

What can I bulk make and freeze at a reasonable price?

I'm thinking spaghetti bolognaise, maybe some soups ?

Doesn't have to be particularly healthy, we just want 3 to 4 weeks worth of meals to get us on our way before we start preparing for the next few months of trying to loose the baby weight! 😭

Any ideas, I'd really appreciate it x

Look on the feed your family for £20 a week - she has loads of ideas for batch cooking.

Chilli, then use micro jacket potatoes or a packet of micro rice if you need a really quick meal.
Curry
Fish pie
Breakfast wraps
Anything you can eat with one hand would be good Grin

Cottage pie, curries, pasta bakes.
Plenty of packs of instant noodles
Beans on toast

If Minced Beef is in your budget try Cornish Pasty Pie. If there is 2 of you, you could divide it between 3 dishes and freeze.

Did you know that you can freeze baked potatoes? Smile

If you already have the spices in, a dal like this would be cheap.

Egg fried rice would probably reheat fine in a microwave.

AluckyEllie · 19/01/2022 20:34

Can I hijack and ask how you reheat etc? I’m 35 weeks. For things like shepherds pie could I do them in those foil trays for 2 portions? Then out the freezer and straight into the oven- I’m guessing half an hour ish at a medium temperature?
Curries I’d put in freezer bags and defrost then warm in a saucepan.
I’m doing shepherds pie/ pasta bake with veg/macaroni cheese/ curries/ dahl/ stew and some soups.
Sorry to butt in and thanks for starting the thread!

Yeah, just jus get the foil trays from somewhere like Home Bargains. You can put anything in them, lasagne, curry, courage pie and stick them straight from frozen in the oven, just make sure they're hot Smile

BunnyRuddington · 19/01/2022 20:49

Forgot to add, make sure you write in the lid what they are Smile

Frugal Fit Mom on YouTube has great videos on cheap freezer meals and budget recipes.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm just sat down making my food shop list, new freezer arriving on Monday morning so I'm spending the day making meals to freeze!
