Recipe box subscription but without the food..?!?

I love the fact that the recipe boxes are whole dinners - sides and all that go with each other. We got a Green Chef one recently on an intro deal and tried loads of new veg as a result plus it did really interesting garnishes, salads and veggies.

But they are just too expensive - plus I got a million little packets of stuff that's already in my well stocked cupboards.

Recipe books just tend to give you one thing but you need to do the mental work putting them together.

Simply Cook is lots of curry based food and not so many interesting veggies - but I'm still waiting to try it out so open minded on this.

Does anyone have any ideas for either some kind of subscription or website or recipe book that gives you the whole meal??

I'm not sure what you mean by 'the whole meal' but Mindful Chef recipe boxes are excellent, and we are phasing out getting the boxes and instead using the recipes from their website and buy our own ingredients.
All recipes are gluten and dairy free but if you aren't, you can substitute easily e.g. replace coconut yoghurt with dairy yoghurt, GF pasta with normal pasta etc.
Their meals include loads of veg and usually have a side or two.
Can search recipes by type of cuisine, ingredients, season etc.

Waitrose now do a "meal planner" on their website, where you go and look at the recipes, decide the ones you want to cook, and can then add the ingredients straight in to your online shop.

So by whole meal - we had one from Green chef:

Chicken with mustard glaze, a cavolo Nero salad with nuts and a dressing and roasted vegetables with herbs etc.

Pork loin with blue cheese topping served with roasted broccoli and green beans with a sort of nutty dressing / salsa thing

Recipe books would usually only give you the mustard chicken, or the cavalo salad or the roasted veg as separate recipes. It's the putting things together I struggle with! I tend to get the 'main' recipe then run out of steam and have boiled peas and carrots Grin

Very pleased to hear Mindful Chef have recipes on their site!! Will check that out

@FusionChefGeoff I see what you mean. Yes, Mindful Chef do that.

NoSquirrels · 15/01/2022 09:21

I think - though it’s a while since I read them/looked at them - that the Jamie Oliver ‘in 30 minutes/in 15 minutes’ are all complete meals main plus sides.

It's a bit old now, but Nigella's How To Eat book puts whole meals together (including puddings!)

And Gordon Ramsey's Sunday Lunch book likewise.

There’s also thespicery.com, which do meal kits including sides, although like SimplyCook they’re often curry based. Some are quite complicated with multiple sides and courses, but I really like the Easy Kits, which are usually a bit simpler but still come with a side or two. They do subscriptions (I’ve got an Easy Kit one which is great, two meal kits a month and they’re delicious), and you can also buy the kits in bundles to try them out.

You need “ the kitchen revolution” by Rosie Sykes
It gives you weekly menus & shopping lists, incorporates leftovers into later meals etc, it’s brilliant

Those Jamie Oliver recipes are great.

Have you thought about buying veg boxes instead ?
You say you are ok on mains . By buying a veg box , you already have veg you might not usually purchase, so therefore will be trying new dishes.

BunnyNumNum · 16/01/2022 09:34

Gousto gives you the whole meal and recipe cards you can keep so you can make them again with your own ingredients. You don't need to subscribe. We order a box every so often just to try new recipes rather than having a subscription, which works for us.

If you want to try you can get money off your first order and there is no obligation to subscribe afterwards. cook.gousto.co.uk/raf?promo_code=MARTH42311740&utm_source=androidapp

Check out Mealime. It's an app with lots of recipes and you can plan a week's meals and create a shopping list.
It also does step by step recipes to follow whilst cooking, including timers!

commanderprimate · 20/01/2022 18:08

There used to be a thing called Spoonfed Suppers which did exactly what you're asking, emailed a shopping list on Saturday, set of recipes for through the week. Was really good! That was ten years ago though.

Try a meal planner app or website.
