We have just finished Xmas lunch. I have 3/4 of a (6lb) turkey left over, loads of spuds, veg, sausages. Kids spent morning secretly stuffing on sweets and selection boxes, I don't like 'dinners', no one here likes turkey very much, yet I cook it every year 'cos its 'traditional'. I even resorted to cheating with M&S stuffing and gravy, both of which were universally acknowledged as pretty grim

Would have been so much happier with antipasti and a homemade pizza. I guess the potatoes will fry up over the next couple of days and the dog and cats won't say no to the dreaded fowl. And turkey soup is one of the few Christmassy foods I like!

Baaah Humbug

Sooo many people don't even like turkey, must be pants to feel obliged to eat it.

I think I may have had it once as a child and it was pretty grim. My mum never liked it and I have been veggie for 20 years so it's not an option (luckily).

Roll on the 2008 antipasti and pizza!!!

We had chicken and it was lovely.

I can eat a turkey sandwich (one that is) once a year! Would much prefer to dip spuds in the lovely garlicky aioli lurking in my fridge.

kiskidee · 25/12/2007 15:09

leek and turkey pie.

WideWebWitch · 25/12/2007 16:01

Oh HELLO! I so agree, you saw what I posted on the other thread. It's just all such an effort for so little reward, I really want pizza or a hotel or something next year.

pukkapatch · 25/12/2007 16:03

none of us particularly like turkey. but ds insists on it. so we have it.
chicken is so much better.

oxocube · 25/12/2007 16:27

Maybe we could start a trend of pizza for Christmas lunch!!! Sooooo much nicer (and quicker and cheaper). At least I didn't go down my friends' route - a couple of them went to a speciality poultry shop and paid 90 euros each for their turkeys At least mine was 15 euros from the local supermarket so I don't feel quite so obliged to eat the bloody thing!

had an M and S Turket stuffed with a duck, stiffed with chicken and stuffing.

It was bloody magic.

Much more taste than a plain Turkey, which I find rather dry

We gave up a few years ago on turkey and have roast lamb or beef - we have just had roast lamb and it was yummy scrummy still had all the trimmings roast potatos, sausages, yorkshire puddings and cranberry sauce - but no dreaded dried up turkey

Maidamess · 25/12/2007 16:52

We had pizza!! Nice pizza with proscuittio (sp?) , sun dried tomatoes. We had bruschetta for starters, lovely fresh salad, olives, and lasagne for those not wanting pizza. It was light and delicious. Would def. do it again. Saves squatting over a hob all bloomin morning!

( I should state I ate 2 Christmas dinners over the weekend, so am all roasted out!)

We had turkey, which was delicious. I don't understand all the "can't be bothered with all the faff". After all, it's just like doing roast chicken for Sunday lunch, only on a slightly bigger scale. Had to do something different for DH who doesn't eat meat, but that's pretty easy.

I find that the more you give them for lunch the less they require anything prepared for tea .

BananaPudding · 25/12/2007 17:19

We do a different nationality dinner every year, this year was Chinese (v hard work cooking frankly), last year was Mexican, next year I'm pushing for Italian or Greek.

It's rather fun changing it up like this!

Blandmum · 25/12/2007 17:31

TBH the similarity to a sundy roast is why I don't really like turkey for Xmas day.

I do a sunday roast most weeks. Xmas day is much the same, just with a meat I don't really like

ivykaty44 · 25/12/2007 17:37

We don't often have a roast dinner - so having a roast is special for us and we enjoy this at Christmas - just not keen on turkey so we picked lamb as it is lovely this time of year. The christmas pudding was rather tasty and went down very well afters {bloated expression]
