Help! How can I counteract the salt in my soup?

After saving the stock from the Xmas ham (which turned out to be VERY salty) I have made some lentil soup but it is soooo salty.... I have put in two whole peeled potatoes (Mum's tip) but it hasn't made any difference. Is there anything else I could do? TIA

grated potatoes

not whole

Hi Magrat, I thought the idea of the whole potatoes was so that you took them out at the end, getting rid of the salt they'd absorbed? Oh I don't know, this cooking malarkey is stressing me out no end...

Could I add water?

yes, maybe take half and augment, and freeze the rest for another time?

have heard the whole potato thing too.

Dilute it - that should work. What kind of soup btw? can you add some suagr and a tin of tomatoes?

Aaah I never thought of freezing it! There will likely be so much other food around that no-one will be that bothered about soup...only me that usually ends up eating it... thanks!

Hmmm.. it's lentil BBB. Maybe a touch of sugar would help too...
