Lord help me. I've conceded to my children who have gnocchi regularly at their dads I hate it

How can I make it lovely? I've bought the premade stuff from super market. Any good recipes / methods. It seems like claggy snot to me.

It needs to be roasted, boiling it makes it soggy if you overcook it.

This recipe from the Roasting Tin book is
My favourite.

I boil it and then fry it so it gets brown and crispy. Much better than the snot texture.

Don’t do a sauce- toss cooked gnocchi in bacon, spinach and mushrooms fried with garlic. Serve with Parmesan.

Pan fry in garlic butter after boiling it. Then add pesto

TheAntiGardener · 08/01/2022 16:21

It needs to come out as soon as it floats to the surface of the water to avoid becoming soggy. Never tried it roasted, but I have used recipes where you pan fry after boiling which I guess has a similar effect.

Homemade is much nicer - lighter, softer.

This was my entry into gnocchi!

Agree that it either needs to be fried or baked!

I came here to say this recipe too, its very nice! I added pancetta for extra deliciousness when I made it last night Grin

Great minds @rosie561! Gnocchi is now going on my food plan for the week. Thanks op!

I don't boil the premade stuff (bought from the fridge) at all. Just tip into a pan with loads of butter and fry til crispy. We use as a quick potato substitute some nights.

I've made this recipe before and it's worked well. Not snotty at least! I've had ricotta gnocchi on my list to try out for a while - I've heard they are lighter so might appeal more. No personal experience though.
