Cooker crisis!

arghhh! how will we cook the turkey? - my cooker has just broken, the hob and grill are fine but no temperature regulation in either oven, parts are obsolete according to our local electrical shop. Does anyone happen to have an old Tricity Sovereign cooker just sitting in their garage in Devon waiting to go to the tip or waiting for us to extract the thermistors (temperature regulators) from to fix ours?? Long shot or what?
We intend to do the kitchen this year so failing this, I need something to tide me over to buy second hand or a borrow so that we can get over xmas with my mother here (challenging enough at the best of times!) Can anyone help, please?

Does the oven work but not the thermostat?

Do you have a slow cooker?

yogabird · 22/12/2007 15:47

yes, even on 40 degrees it's baking hot!

No to the slow cooker, sighs wistfully!

Could you use a turkey whatsit that you stick in the bird and it pops out when it is cooked?

yogabird · 22/12/2007 15:51

no cos the oven won't regulate the temperature whatever you set it at it's just very very very hot!

Go and get a slow cooker. They aren't too expensive.

yogabird · 22/12/2007 16:01

silly question probably but are they big enough?

I have done a chicken in mine but it would depend how big the turkey is - if it is for 15 people, probably not.

We had a table top cooker that we bought whilst renovating our last house and didn't have a kitchen, cost about £90, It's a bit bigger than one of you larger microwaves. We've kept hold of it and although we only use it a couple of times a year when we need extra oven space it's a handy little bugger.

Anyway that was a long winded way of saying I would bite the bullet and shell out £90 so you can cook your turkey and you'll have a handy little store away cooker for emergencies and big dinner parties.

sounds good, where from? what make? most shops are open tomorrow aren't they?

bugger Xmas lights aren't working now

bonus though that the tree was free from homebase who are now giving all of theirs away

Baby Belling is the classic, but there are others - usually one available from Argos made by Moulinex or another well known manufacturer.
It works off a normal 13 amp socket/plug but you can't use the grill plus oven plus hot plates at the same time.
