Can't make a frittata now I have an electric oven - advice please

I used to make a frittata for four in a frying pan on the hob and then put the frying pan under the gas grill with the grill left open and the silicone handle poking out and not under the grill.

I can't do this with my electric oven as the electric grill requires the door to be closed

It's not possible to flip a large thick frittata over in the frying pan on the hob without it disintegrating, but I do need to brown and set the eggs on top of the frittata (which needs the grill or oven)

What to do? (Wrings hands)

Buy a pan with a metal handle that can go in the oven.

gogohm · 02/01/2022 13:41

I have frittata pans with a removable clip on handle, bit like on camping pans, bought them in a supermarket in Italy, very cheap.

LaDoIceVita · 02/01/2022 13:42

Or buy a Tefal Ingenio pan with detachable handle to use in the oven.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 02/01/2022 13:44

You need a skillet with an ovenproof handle. (Isn’t this obvious?) Cast iron probably. Easy to spend hours browsing these things.

I make frittatas the same way as you - but the grill on every electric oven I’ve ever used works with the oven door left open, so your problem is novel to me.

Gardeniafleur · 02/01/2022 13:46

You can buy interlocking frittata pans that let you flip it and finish it on the stove top.

Fuuuuuckit · 02/01/2022 13:58

Are you 100% sure it only works with the door closed?

I've always had electric ovens with grill, the instructions only ever said to leave the door open.

None of my frying pan handles have melted yet...

LimitIsUp · 02/01/2022 14:00

Yes I am 100% sure I can't use the grill without closing the door - I've tried.

Going to order the Tegan ingenio pan - thank you

Just to show you that it won't operate without the door being closed

While you wait if you get desperate you can just bake the whole thing on the oven in a lasagna dish!

rrhuth · 02/01/2022 14:10

In the oven that should say!

LimitIsUp · 02/01/2022 14:14

Good idea rrhuth!

Slide out of frying pan onto plate.
Put frying pan over plate, pick whole lot up and invert.

coronabeer · 02/01/2022 14:21

This is the way I do it: Place a plate over the frittata in the pan when the bottom part is cooked.
Carefully invert the frittata on to the plate. The cooked part should now be on top. Slide the frittata back into the pan and cook the underneath part.

I just bake mine in the oven - put the veg/potatoes/etc in a dish lined with grease proof paper, pour over the egg mixture and bake.

educatingrati · 02/01/2022 14:45

I've always cooked mine in the oven, it's basically quiche without the pastry....or I'm cooking something else insteadBlushGrin

ZoeTheThornyDevil · 02/01/2022 14:49

I just put the entire pan under the grill and close the door. As PP said, no pan handle has melted yet.

LimitIsUp · 02/01/2022 15:00

Never considered the plate idea - simple but ingenious

I am currently doing the in oven approach using a lasagne dish. I oiled it first but didn't use greaseproof paper so it might go awry
